The IBM ThinkPad T22 laptop / notebook comes with a 900 MHz Pentium III processor, 128 MB RAM (expandable to 512 MB), and a 14.1-inch, active-matrix screen with 1,024 x 768 resolution. Storage is a 20 GB hard disk drive and an 8x DVD-ROM. IBM ThinkPad T22 includes a 56K modem but no built-in networking, though of course you can always add a PC Card Ethernet adapter. ASUS has released last month samples of the Z62F, the first Intel Core DUO barebone / whitebox notebook available to the public.

The unit boasts dramatically improved processing performance and multitasking capabilities, better energy efficiency, and a longer battery life. Acer announced yesterday that they surpassed Toshiba as the world’s No. 3 notebook brand in Q4 2005, with 66.7% year-on-year growth – highest among the top-five notebook vendors, according to preliminary data from Gartner Dataquest. Acer notebooks ranked No. 1 in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), and No. 3 in Asia Pacific with 117.1% growth, the highest among the top-ten vendors.
