HP has asked 15.700 customers around the world to send back their HP or Compaq laptop batteries. Otherwise, customers risk the potentially faulty power packs overheating and catching fire. The recall affects buyers of HP Pavilion notebooks with model numbers starting ‘DV1′ and ‘ZE2′; Compaq Presarios with model numbers starting ‘V2′ and ‘M2′; and HP Compaq kit with model numbers commencing ‘NX48′.

Intel U1300 ULV Core Solo and U1400 ULV Core Solo processors, which consume no more than 5.5 watts of power when running at their maximum, have been launched today. For comparison, A LV (low voltage) Intel Core Duo CPU runs at 15 watts, and a standard Duo runs at 25 watts. Considering lower power consumption and lower heating, these ultra-low-voltage processors will improve laptop computers by saving battery life and allowing use of these CPUs without cooling fans, which will make future laptops even smaller.

According to notebookreview.com, Fujitsu will release their new LifeBook S7110 Intel dual core 14-inch screen laptop in a few days. The Fujitsu LifeBook S7110 supports up to 100 GB hard drive (SATA) and up to 2GB DDR2 memory. It weights 4.5 lbs. Estimated LifeBook S7110 price will be $1,449 for basic configuration.

Larger batteries are available, but they kind of destroy the aesthetic. The case is black—how much more black could it get?—and has a rubberized wrist rest. These are minor details that really stand out.

Novatel Wireless announced the development of the first EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized) and HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) 3G PCI ExpressCards/34. Novatel Wireless has delivered pre-commercial samples of both its EVDO and HSDPA ExpressCards, which are being developed pursuant to agreements and purchase orders from the company’s principal customers - laptop manufacturers and major carriers.

Recently announced Averatec 7100 is said to be “the lightest 17-inch laptop” with approximately 7.2 lbs weight. Averatec 7100 features AMD Turion 64 or Mobile Sempron Processor, 512MB or 1GB System RAM (upgradeable to 2GB), 80GB or 100GB Hard Drives and an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M Graphics.

Averatec 7100 configurations have dual Layer DVD Burner, 802.11 b/g Wireless LAN, 5-in-1 Media Card Reader (MMC/MS/MSPRO/SD/xD), PCMCIA and PC Express Expansion Slots and a full size keyboard and numeric keypad.

Fujitsu this week introduced the world’s third laptop featuring an HD DVD drive - the Fujitsu FMV-Biblio Loox NX95S/D. FMV-Biblio Loox NX95S/D announcment comes after Toshiba Qosmio G30 and Acer Aspire 9800 HD DVD laptops.

It’s a 17″ laptop for the Japaneese market with Intel’s dual core T2300 (1.66GHz) CPU, 320GB SATA hard drive and a ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 256MB HyperMemory graphics card. (more…)

Fujitsu recently announced the world’s first 200GB laptop hard drive. It’s MHV2200BT 2.5-inch SATA HDD which runs at 4200 rpm. MHV2200BT, the biggest laptop hard drive, has 8MB cache memory.

“Fujitsu developed the MHV2200BT to address growing demands for mobile hard disk drives with the performance and capacity required for external HDD products as well as high-end audio/video computing applications such as gaming, video editing, audio recording and DVR functionality”, Fujitsu’s press release says.
