Acer Aspire 9800Acer today announced the North American availability of its new 20.1-inch wide-screen Aspire 9800 laptop computer, combining “cutting-edge multimedia PC performance, HD-DVD technology, IP-based communication facilities, and analog and DVB-T hybrid TV-tuner, audio and gaming functionalities”.

Acer Aspire 9800 incorporates Intel Centrino Duo mobile processing technology, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphic chipsets, up to 4GB DDR2 in system memory, and 240GB Intel Matrix RAID ready SATA hard drives.

Apple Recalls 15-Inch MacBook Pro Batteries

AppleApple has initiated a worldwide battery exchange program for certain batteries that were sold for use with 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops from February 2006 through May 2006.

“We recently discovered that some 15-inch MacBook Pro batteries supplied to Apple do not meet our high standards for battery performance. To give our users the best experience possible, we will replace these batteries for customers free of charge”, Apple published.

Dell Merom Laptops in Late AugustDell laptops featuring new Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) processors will be available at the end of the following month, Dell announced in its press release dedicated to the new XPS 410, Dimension 9200 and Precision 390 Workstation Core 2 Duo desktop computers.

“Dell will offer Core 2 Duo mobile processors in a variety of Dell Precision, Latitude, Inspiron and XPS mobile platforms at the end of August”, says computer manufacturer.

Intel: Merom Laptops to Hit the Market at the End of August

Intel Merom Laptops in AugustIntel today officially unveiled its new processor lineup including 10 models - five laptop-use Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile CPUs (Merom) and five Core 2 Duo desktop processors (Conroe). According to Intel, Merom-based laptops are expected to hit the market at the end of August. Official prices of the new laptop CPUs were not disclosed.

All five laptop processor are branded as T-series Core 2 Duo processors, and their core frequencies vary from 1.66GHz to 2.33GHz. (more…)

Lenovo Cut ThinkPad Prices by Up to 33 %

LenovoLenovo recently lowered the price of its ThinkPad laptops in the US, with its X60 model being slashed by 33%, according to the Chinese-language website Sina.com. The ThinkPad X60 is now priced at US$1,399, down from the original price tag of US$2,099, indicated the website.

NVIDIA SLI Power - Switching Between Integrated and Discreete GPU without Reboot

NVIDIA SLI PowerNVIDIA is working on SLI Power technology combining an integrated and discrete graphics cards for laptops that switch seamlessly between power savings and performance with no computer reboot needed, Laptop Logic reports.

“Obviously this is easier said than done and the feature is still being developed. We hear that the software interface is being rather difficult, getting Windows to switch video device drivers on a whim and all. There is no word on when this may be completed, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see this around Vista time, says Laptop Logic “Off the Record” report.

Clevo M570U Laptop Already Supports Merom Processor

Clevo M570U (Sager NP5760, Sager NP5750) Clevo M570U laptop already fully supports new Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) processors. The M570U specifications say that it can be configured with Core 2 Duo Mobile T7200 CPU, while support for T7400, T7600 and T5600 Merom processors is not available yet.

Taiwanese Clevo M570U can be found on the USA market under the name Sager NP5760 and Sager NP5750. These laptops shipp with Intel Core Duo (Yonah) processors, but, according to the post at Notebook Review Forum, Sager has already successfully tested the Merom processor in the NP5760 and NP5750 and they work just fine even without a BIOS update.
