Fujitsu MHW2160BHFujitsu Computer Products of America today announced the MHW2160BH 2.5-inch laptop hard drive series featuring perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology. Fujitsu MHW2160BH provides 160GB of storage space with 5400rpm rotational speed and SATA interface.

“The new Fujitsu MHW2160BH hard drive is an ideal solution for ultra-fast, high-capacity notebook computers. Developed using PMR technology, the mobile SATA hard disk drives achieve 80GB of storage per platter, among the highest in the industry with this rotation speed”, Fujitsu’s press release says.

Fujitsu MHW2080ATFujitsu Computer Products of America today announced the new Fujitsu MHW2080AT series of 2.5 inch laptop hard drives featuring up to 80GB capacity in a single platter, 4200rpm rotational speed and PATA interface.

“The new Fujitsu MHW2080AT series of hard disk drives are geared toward non-IT applications whose products have a longer life cycle. Featuring up to 80GB capacity in a single platter as well as low power consumption, the cost-efficient mobile HDDs also demonstrate best-in-class reduced acoustic noise, resulting in exceptionally quiet performance”, Fujitsu’s press release says.

ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 Chipset for Intel PCs Announced

ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 ChipsetATI Technologies today introduced the new Radeon Xpress 1250 chipset delivering integrated graphics on the Intel mobile and desktop computing platform.

Graphics Engine on the ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 for Intel Notebooks delivers full DirectX 9.0 compatibility with support for vertex and pixel shader 2.0. Integrated AVIVO video processing engine provides hardware acceleration for MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264 and WMV9. ATI’s Radeon Xpress 1250 for Intel powered laptops uses a unified memory architecture which allocates some system memory for a video buffer. The minimum amount of allocated memory is 16MB while the maximum is 512MB. As far as system memory goes a maximum of 16GB of DDR2 is supported in 400, 533, 667 and 800 MHz flavors, Laptop Logic reports.

The HP Pavilion dv9000t and Pavilion dv6000t notebook now can be configured with a Core 2 Duo T5600 CPU running at 1.83GHz with 2MB of L2 cache and a 2.00GHz T7200 Merom CPU with 4MB of cache.

AMD-ATI Yokohama Laptop Platform Coming Soon

AMD and ATIAMD and ATI will jointly launch a new laptop platform, currently codenamed Yokohama, by the fourth quarter of this year. Targeted to compete with Intel’s Napa Refresh notebook platform, Yokohama utilizes AMD Turion 64 X2 processors and ATI’s future chipsets, currently known as the RS690M, RS690DC and RS790M. Yokohama platform may also include WLAN chipsets from Broadcom, Atheros Communications or Airgo Networks, Digi Times reports according to sources at Taiwan-based notebook makers familiar with ATI’s latest roadmap.

The Sony Vaio VGN-FE770G is the first laptop of the 15.4-inch screen FE series featuring the latest Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. With Core 2 Duo T5600 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive, it is suggested by manufacturer to cost $1350.

Alienware Merom Laptops Introduced

Alienware MeromAlienware today published that Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom) processors are now available on the Alienware Area-51 m5750, Area-51 m5550, and the Sentia m3450 laptops, “delivering up to 20% greater performance than previous-generation Core Duo processors.”

The basic 17-inch screen Alienware Area-51 m5750 and the 15.4-inch Area-51 m5550 Core 2 Duo configurations start at $1399 and $899 respectively, while 14-inch screen Alienware Sentia m3450 powered by Merom starts at $849.

Gateway MeromGateway today announced Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) processor options when purchasing M255-E, M285-E, M465-E and M685-E profesional laptop models, as same as Gateway NX260X, NX560, NX860X and CX210X consumer oriented notebooks.

These laptops will be available with Intel Core 2 Duo T5600 (1.83GHz, 2MB L2 cache), T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 cache) and T7400 (2.16GHz, 4MB L2 cache) processors from August 31, while notebooks with the Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 (1.66GHz, 2MB L2 cache) processor will be offered in September.

IntelIntel today officialy announced Intel Core 2 Duo mobile (Merom) processors and their prices. The mobile version of the Intel Core 2 Duo processors T7600, T7400, T7200, T5600 and T5500 are priced at $637, $423, $294, $241 and $209 respectively, in 1000-unit quantities.

More than 200 Intel Centrino Duo mobile technology-based designs from PC manufacturers, resellers and integrators around the world will incorporate the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor this year, Intel announced.

The G35-AV660 comes with Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and is Windows Vista Premium Ready. This laptop, unlike previous G35-AV650 with 32-bit Core Duo processor, supports both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.

Merom Laptop Announcements on Monday

Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom)Computer makers are expected to tout new notebook PCs based on the new Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) laptop processor on Monday, CNet reports according to sources familiar with the Intel’s plans. An Intel representative declined to comment this announcement.

Core frequencies of the new five T-series Core 2 Duo Mobile processors vary from 1.66GHz to 2.33GHz. All five CPUs support a 667MHz FSB. The L2 cache of the two budget models, the 1.66GHz Core 2 Duo T5500 and the 1.83GHz Core 2 Duo T5600, have a 2MB L2 cache. The three other processors, the 2GHz Core 2 Duo T7200, the 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo T7400 and 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo T7600, have a 4MB L2 cache.

MacBook Shipping Delays

MacBookApple this month is reportedly struggling to fill orders for its consumer-oriented MacBook laptops. Many customers who were expecting to receive previously-placed orders for the MacBooks by this week got an apology letter from Apple stating that it would be unable to fill orders within the timeframe it had promised, Apple Insider reports.
