Toshiba Satellite P100-ST9752, P100-ST9762, P100-ST9772 Toshiba today announced three new additions to its gaming notebook line with the Satellite P100-ST9752, Satellite P100-ST9762 and Satellite P100-ST9772 laptops. The new 17-inch widescreen Satellite configurations feature NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GTX graphics with 512MB of GDDR3 SDRAM, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, PC5300 DDR2 667MHz system memory and Windows Vista Ultimate OS.

Sony Vaio and LF Base StationSony Electronics today announced that its LocationFree (LF) Player software will be pre-installed on all of the summer line of VAIO laptops. The software will enable Sony VAIO notebook users to access content from their home entertainment devices virtually anywhere in the world, as long as they have either a LF-B10 or LF-B20 Base Station.

Canovo Dual Screen Notebook ConceptThe Italian design firm V12 has recently introduced its Canovo dual-screen notebook/tablet concept, which features two display units.

One of these touch-screens can be used as an additional display, but also as a fully functional and customizable keyboard. Currently, there are no working sample and specifications of this concept computer.

Dell Latitude D630, D830 Santa Rosa Laptops Coming in April

The Current Dell Latitude D620Dell will launch the Latitude D630 and Latitude D830 laptops featuring Intel’s forthcoming Santa Rosa notebook platform in April, NotebookReview reports.

“Dell has leaked the names of the Latitude D630 and Latitude D830 notebooks on their driver download pages. Though information is scarce, a couple of university websites are indicating a late April release for these business laptops that will have the updated Intel Santa Rosa platform,” the report says.

Dell to Sell Linux-Preloaded Notebooks and Desktops

Dell Latitude with Linux TuxDell Inc. will the most likely start selling Linux-certified laptop and desktop PCs, the computer maker announced after thousands of users voted for that idea on a company’s blog called Dell Idea Storm.

“It’s exciting to see the IdeaStorm community’s interest in open source solutions like Linux and OpenOffice. Your feedback has been all about flexibility and we have seen a consistent request to provide platforms that allow people to install their operating system of choice. We are listening, and as a result, we are working with Novell to certify our corporate client products for Linux, including our OptiPlex desktops, Latitude notebooks and Dell Precision workstations. This is another step towards ensuring that our customers have a good experience with Linux on our systems,” Dell published.

Intel Santa Rosa Platform Coming in May

IntelIntel’s forthcoming Centrino notebook platform, codenamed Santa Rosa, will be released in May, according to TG Daily.

The next generation Centrino platform was introduced at Intel Developer Forum in September 2006. It is designed for use with Intel Core 2 Duo (codenamed Merom) processors and will feature 667MHz up to 800MHz front-side bus. The FSB speed can be dynamically reduced and raised, as required by the operating workload.

Canon PIXMA iP90vCanon today announced its new portable PIXMA iP90v Photo Printer. The mobile, sleek and stylish Canon PIXMA iP90v provides photo and document printing via USB port, as well as via IrDa (.jpeg images only) and optional Bluetooth connections with laptop or even cell phone.

The PIXMA iP90v enables black and white printing with speed of up to 16 pages per minute (ppm) and up to 12 ppm in color. The postcard sized borderless photo will be done for approximately 81 seconds using the iP90v. The maximal resolution for black and white is 600 x 600 dpi, and 4800 x 1200 dpi for color printing.

Dell Users Demand Linux-Based Laptops

Linux Tux on Dell LaptopDell is weighing a request to give customers the option to purchase PCs with the Linux operating system, instead of the default Microsoft’s Windows, after thousands of users voted for that idea on a company’s new blog called Dell Idea Storm.

“The most popular threads on Wednesday included demands for Linux-based laptops, consumer PCs that are not pre-loaded with unsolicited applications and requests for Sun Microsystems’ OpenOffice applications instead of Microsoft’s Office suite. Popular requests also included a preference for Mozilla Firefox Web browser instead of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, and pleas for Dell to stop routing service calls to operators in overseas countries such as India,” IDG News Service reports.

NVIDIA GeForce 8-Series for Notebooks Coming Soon

Jen-Hsun Huang, Chief Executive and President of NvidiaNVIDIA plans to release GeForce 8 series video cards for notebooks in time for Intel’s Santa Rosa laptop platform launch, chief executive and president of Nvidia Jen-Hsun Huang said recently, during a conference call with financial analysts.

The Santa Rosa platform, also known as Centrino Pro, is likely to be launched in late Q1 or early Q2 2007, which means that commercial shipments of GeForce 8 for gaming and multimedia notebooks are just around the corner, X-Bit Labs reports.

Apple Released Support for Novatel HSDPA, EVDO Cards

Novatel's HSDPA CardApple has added the software support for the Novatel’s WWAN products to its Mac OS X 10.4.8 based systems, such as MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops. Owners of the Intel-powered Macs are now enabled to use Novatel HSDPA and EVDO wireless modems for Cingular, Sprint and Verizon networks with Apple’s official drivers.
