MacBooks to Feature iPhone’s Multi-Touch Technology
The upcoming Apple MacBook laptops will feature the iPhone’s multi-touch technology built into their touchpads, according to Crunch Gear’s sources.
“The feature will be built into the touchpads, allowing you to navigate through your notebook’s files, applications, etc. the same way you can on the iPhone. Yes, I know you can already scroll with them, that’s nothing new. I’m talking about all the other finger gestures that can be done on the iPhone’s screen,” CrunchGear says.

Dell Latitude D430 Arrived
Along with a Precision M4300 mobile workstation, Dell Inc. has officially unveiled the Latitude D430 ultraportable notebook. The first D430 models are not built on the latest Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform. Instead, they feature older “Napa” platform, introduced in January 2006.
Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000, QuickCam Pro for Notebooks Introduced
Logitech today unveiled the QuickCam Pro 9000 and the QuickCam Pro for Notebooks, both featuring lenses designed in a collaboration with Carl Zeiss, one of the world’s leading optics companies.
The new QuickCam Pro-series web cameras incorporate a Carl Zeiss Tessar, “a lens design renowned for delivering superior sharpness while being very light weight and compact”. Another improved feature in new QuickCam Pro cameras is Logitech’s autofocus system, which refocuses images in less than three seconds and helps ensure that images remain crisp even in close-ups (up to 10 cm from the camera lens).
Gateway C-140 / E-295C Tablet PC Available
Gateway today announced its C-140 (E-295C for business customers) 14-inch tablet PC, aimed at digital artists. It features Wacom’s digital pen technology, Intel’s “Santa Rosa” notebook platform and an optional AMD-ATI’s dedicated graphics solution.
According to press release, the battery-free Gateway executive stylus is pressure sensitive, and, with 256 levels of sensitivity, is ideal for simulating paint on canvas. Gateway C-140/E-295C is configurable with Intel Core 2 Duo T7100, T7300, T7500, or T7700 processor, and with up to 4GB of DDR2 memory. By default, Gatway’s new tablet comes with Intel GM965 chipset and Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 integrated graphics, but there is also an option of PM965 chipset with ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 HD 256MB dedicated video card. Its 14″ widescreen display provides 1280 x 768 maximal resolution. The C-140/E-295C convertible notebook ships with up to 120GB SATA hard drive and has a built-in DVD burner or Combo drive.

Ubuntu-Powered Dell Inspiron 1420N Unveiled
Dell Inc. has refreshed its Linux OS-powered consumer PC lineup with the new 14.1-inch Dell Inspiron 1420N notebook. It features Ubuntu version 7.04 Linux distribution and the new Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile platform.
Dell Inspiron 1420N is offered with 667MHz front side bus Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 or T5450 processor, as well as with 800MHz FSB T7100, T7300, or T7500 CPU. It features GM965 chipset incorporating Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 integrated graphics, which manages notebook’s 14.1″ widescreen display with 1280×800 or optional 1440×900 resolution. The system is configurable with up to 4GB of DDR2 memory at 667MHz, and with up to 160GB SATA hard drive at 5400rpm or 7200rpm rotational speed. There are Combo drive or DVD burner options.
Dell Precision M4300 Mobile Workstation Unveiled
Dell Precision M4300, the new notebook in company’s mobile workstation lineup, has been unveiled today. The 15.4-inch M4300 features Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook PC platform and NVIDIA’s Quadro FX graphics solution.
The Precision M4300, a successor of the Precision M65 model, is offered with Core 2 Duo T7100, T7300, T7500, and T7700 processor and a discrete Quadro FX 360M 256MB video card designed for graphically-demanding applications like 3D modeling and video-editing. This graphics card manages the 15.4″ widescreen display, which is offered in three versions: WUXGA UltraSharp (200 nits) with 1920×1200 resolution, WSXGA+ UltraSharp TrueLife (200 nits) with 1680×1050, or WXGA (220 nits) with 1280×800 resolution.
Toshiba Satellite X205 Gaming Notebook Announced
Toshiba has announced the Satellite X205 gaming notebook PC series, featuring a 17-inch display, Intel “Santa Rosa” platform, NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT graphics solution, and a HD DVD drive.
Toshiba Satellite X205 is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor and PM965 chipset, both providing 800MHz front side bus, which is an increase from 667MHz in older Satellite laptops. The GeForce 8700M GT dedicated graphics card in the X205 notebook is compatible with DirectX 10 games and has 256MB DDR3 video memory. This video card manages 17″ widescreen display with 1440-by-900 pixel resolution. Toshiba’s X205 supports up to 4GB of system memory and can be configured with up to two SATA hard drives. The offered configurations include 2×120GB and 2×160GB storage capacities. The laptop has a HD DVD player with CD and DVD writing capabilities. The HD DVD drive and notebook’s HDMI output with 1080i resolution provide high definition playback on external HD monitors and HDTVs.
Toshiba Qosmio F45-AV412 Multimedia Notebook Introduced
Toshiba today announced the Qosmio F45-AV412 15.4-inch multimedia notebook computer featuring Intel “Santa Rosa” platform, HD DVD-ROM drive, HDMI output, and Dolby surround sound technology.
Toshiba Qosmio F45-AV412, the first model in the new F45 series, is based on Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 processor and the GM965 chipset with the integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, empowering a 15.4″ 1280×800-pixel widescreen display.
Alienware Area-51 m9750 Now Has Dual 512MB GeForce 7950 GTX
Alienware announced today the refreshed Area-51 m9750 gaming and multimedia notebook, which is now claimed to be the World’s first 17-inch laptop to fuse dual 512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX graphics cards and Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
Along with Core 2 Duo Mobile “Merom” processor and 945PM chipset, the Intel “Napa” platform-based Alienware Area-51 m9750 features single NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX 512MB GDDR3 graphics card or two of them paired using NVIDIA SLI technology. These graphics solutions empower the notebook’s 17-inch widescreen display with 1920×1200 or optional 1440×900 resolution.
Toshiba Satellite A215 - Company’s First AMD Laptop Since 2000
Toshiba today launched the Satellite A215 notebook computers, its first AMD-powered laptop series since 2000.
Along with AMD’s dual core Turion 64 X2 mobile processors, including the Gold Edition TL64 CPU, Toshiba Satellite A215 incorporates M690V chipset with its integrated ATI Radeon X1200 series graphics, managing notebook’s 15.4″ widescreen display with 1280-by-800 pixels screen resolution. These consumer laptops support up to 4GB of DDR2 system memory and Serial ATA hard disk drives. The first A215 series models feature built-in DVD burner with Labelflash technology for burning labels directly on the media.
Dell Inspiron 1720, 1721 Available
Dell Inc. has unveiled its new 17-inch Dell Inspiron 1720 and Inspiron 1721 laptops, based on Intel’s and AMD’s chipsets and processors respectively.
The Inspiron 1720 is built on Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform and is offered with Core 2 Duo T5250, T5450, T7100, T7300, and T7500 CPUs. These processors have clock speeds ranging from 1.5GHz to 2.2GHz and 800MHz FSB. The 1720 model with GM965 chipset features integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, while the same notebook based on Intel PM965 chipset provides a choice of dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 128MB or NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256MB video card.
Dell Inspiron 1520/1521 Available
Dell has released the new Intel-based Dell Inspiron 1520 and AMD-powered Inspiron 1521 15.4-inch consumer laptops.
Dell Inspiron 1520 is built on Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform and is offered with Core 2 Duo T5250, T5450, T7100, T7300, and T7500 processors. These CPUs have clock speeds ranging from 1.5GHz to 2.2GHz and 800MHz front side bus. The 1520 models with GM965 chipset feature the integrated Intel X3100 graphics, while those based on PM965 chipset come with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 128MB or NVIDIA GeForce 8600M WP 256MB card.
Dell Inspiron 1420 Available
Dell Inspiron 1420, the company’s 14.1-inch consumer notebook based on Intel “Santa Rosa” platform, is now available for purchase at Dell’s website.
The 1420 is offered with the new Core 2 Duo processors with 800MHz front side bus and clock speeds ranging from 1.5GHz to 2.2GHz. Along with T7100, T7300, and T7500 Core 2 Duo CPUs there are two new budget models: the T5450, and the T5250. According to earlier reports, Dell Inspiron 1420 will be also configurable with the “Santa Rosa” compatible Celeron M processor.
Dell XPS m1330 Now Available
The 13.3-inch Dell XPS M1330 notebook, based on Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile PC platform, is now available for purchase at computer maker’s website.
Dell XPS M1330 features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor, ranging from the new T5250 (1.50GHz,2M L2 Cache,667MHz FSB) to T7700 (2.4GHz,4M L2 Cache,800MHz FSB). It is built on GM965 chipset with integrated Intel GMA X3100 graphics or PM965 chipset paired with dedicated NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS 128MB. Regarding notebook’s screen, there is a standard 13.3-inch WXGA display or an optional WXGA LED backlight display. Dell’s new XPS laptop supports up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and comes with 32GB solid state drive or a standard hard drive with up to 200GB storage space and with 5400rpm and 720rpm rotational speeds, depending on model. It has an integrated slot-loading DVD burner.
AlphaSmart Released NEO 2 Educational Portable Computer
AlphaSmart has released the NEO 2, its new model of the portable computer device that helps teachers improve students’ basic skills in keyboarding and writing.
The teacher- and student-friendly NEO and NEO 2 include learning software for developing writing, keyboarding, and quizzing skills. It allows teachers to send quizzes and receive student answers. However, NEO devices do not include Internet capabilities.
