Dell XPS M1730 Available in Three Configurations

Dell XPS M1730After the release of the first Dell XPS M1730, priced at $2,999, other configurations of the PC maker’s new 17-inch gaming notebook are available for purchase.

The long awaited XPS M1730 is based on the Intel PM965 chipset supporting Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors. All of the currently available configurations feature dual NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT video cards operating in SLI mode, the AGEIA PhysX 100M physics processing unit, delivering “realistic movement and environmental interaction at incredible speeds without degrading overall performance”, and 2GB of DDR2 system memory, expandable to 4GB. The two 8700M GT GPUS provide a total of 512MB (2×256MB) video memory, while the notebook’s 17″ widescreen glossy display has a resolution of 1920-by-1200 pixels.

ASUS U6S Ultraportable Features Dedicated Graphics, HSDPA

Asus U6SAsustek plans to release the ASUS U6S 12.1-inch ultraportable notebook, featuring the Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile platform, a dedicated video card, and a 3.5G HSDPA support.

Although the majority of ultraportables in the market come with slower ultra-low or low voltage processors, the ASUS U6S features the full-voltage Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 at 2.2GHz. The laptop has the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G graphics with 128MB of dedicated video memory, which manages a 12.1” 1280-by-800 pixel LED backlight display. This laptop supports up to 2GB of RAM, and incorporates a 250GB hard drive at 5400rpm rotational speed, as well as a DVD burner.

Panasonic Thoughbook Series Refreshed

The New Panasonic ThoughbookPanasonic has refreshed its Thoughbook rugged laptop PC series with four new models featuring the Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform and enhanced protection from drops and spills. The new laptops are the CF-T7, CF-W7, CF-Y7, and the CF-R7 (for the Japanese market only).

“The new 7-series machines, aimed at corporate users, are beefier than the current 5-series machines and can survive a fall from a greater height. The new models can be dropped from 76 centimeters — the height of an average desk — while switched on and still work, according to Panasonic. Its current Thoughbook models for the corporate PC market are rated for a 30 cm drop but only when switched off,” PC World reports.

Voodoo ENVY M:152 Introduced

Voodoo ENVY M:152Hewlett-Packard today introduced the Voodoo ENVY M:152 15.4-inch notebook PC, featuring the Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile platform, and the NVIDIA’s dedicated graphics.

Starting at approximately $3,300, the ENVY M:152 is configurable with the Intel Core 2 Duo T7700, T7500 or T7300 processor. The HP’s press release says this laptop “supports” the Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800 CPU, which is not available as an option. The M:152’s 15.4″ widescreen display with a 1680×1050 resolution and a matte finish is managed by the NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT GPU, supporting DirectX 10 gaming.

The First Dell XPS M1730 Now Available; Priced at $2,999

Dell XPS M1730The long awaited Dell XPS M1730 17-inch gaming notebook is now available for purchase through the company’s website. Priced at $2,999, the first offered M1730 configuration features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, dual NVIDIA GeForce 8700M graphics cards in SLI mode, and a physics processing unit.

The Dell XPS M1730, advertised as the “Beast“, is based on the Intel “Santa Rosa” platform with the PM965 chipset. The available M1730 configuration incorporates the Core 2 Duo T7700 processor with a 2.4GHz clock speed and an 800MHz front side bus. The two built-in GeForce 8700M cards, managing the 17″ widescreen glossy display with a resolution of 1920-by-1200 pixels, provide a total of 512MB dedicated video memory. This laptop is the world’s first to have a built in physics processing unit. It’s the AGEIA PhysX 100M, “dedicated solely to delivering rich immersive physical gaming environments”.

ASUS Eee PC 700, 701 Available for Preorder

Asus EEE PC 700, 701 WhiteThe ASUS Eee PC, the company’s low-cost laptop computer, is now available for preorder through the AllASUS website. The retailer will start shipping these 7-inch Intel-based laptops in early October.

There are three offered configurations of the 1.96-pound Eee PC, which starts at $259.99. For that price, you can get the Eee PC 700 model in black color. It has 256MB of system memory and 2GB of embedded Flash memory storage. The $299.00 Eee PC 700 model also features a 256MB RAM, and 2GB of storage, but, in addition, it has a built-in 0.3 megapixel web camera. The best equipped is the ASUS Eee PC 701 for $399.99, which incorporates 512MB of memory, 4GB of storage, and a webcam. The $299.00 and $399.99 Eee PCs provide black and white color options and come with a carry bag.

Sony Introduces VAIO NR Laptop

Sony VAIO NRSony today unveiled the affordable VAIO NR 15.4-inch laptop series, starting at about $750. It is “the lowest-priced notebook the company has ever introduced,” according to the Sony’s press release.

The Sony VAIO NR110, NR120, and NR140 notebook models, listed on the company’s official website, are based on the Intel’s GL960 chipset, paired with a Pentium Dual Core processor. These systems come with 1GB of system memory, which is expandable to 2GB, and a hard drive with 120GB or 160GB of storage capacity, depending on model.

Toshiba Satellite X205 Now with SLI Technology

Toshiba Satellite X205-SLIToshiba today announced the addition of NVIDIA SLI technology to its Satellite X205 17-inch gaming notebook series. The dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video cards in SLI mode are available in the Satellite X205-SLI1 and the Satellite X205-SLI3 configurations.

“Both models feature dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processing units (GPUs) with combined 512MB of dedicated video RAM and are compatible with Microsoft DirectX 10, ensuring that gamers can take full advantage of the cutting-edge graphics technology that are available within today’s ultra-realistic gaming titles,” the company’s press release says.

OLPC Announced Commercial Availability of XO Laptop

Cambodian Schoolchildren Using the XOThe non-profit organization One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) announced today commercial availability of its XO laptop, initially aimed to help education of children in developing countries.

“Starting November 12, One Laptop Per Child will be offering a Give 1 Get 1 Program for a brief window of time. For $399, you will be purchasing two XO laptops - one that will be sent to empower a child to learn in a developing nation, and one that will be sent to your child at home”, Founder and Chairman of One Laptop Per Child Nicholas Negroponte said in a statement.

Dell XPS M1730 Launch Delayed; Specs Leaked

Dell XPS M1730The Dell XPS M1730 gaming notebook has not been released yet, although, according to the leaked information and earlier reports, its launch was planned for September 21st.

The product specifications leaked from the Dell’s official website say the XPS M1730 will be configurable with the Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 at 2GHz, T7500 at 2.2GHz, T7700 at 2.4GHz, and the Core 2 Extreme X7800 at 2.6GHz. All of these CPUs have 4MB of L2 cache and a 800MHz front side bus. There is no Core 2 Extreme X7900 option, which was expected to appear in Dell’s new 17-inch widescreen gaming laptop. The notebook’s TrueLife glossy display with 1920-by-1200 pixel resolution is managed by the NVIDIA GeForce Go 8700M GT 256MB dedicated video card in single or dual (SLI) configuration. The specifications do not mention the GeForce 8800M graphics and the AGEIA PhysX 100M physics card, but these options might be available later, as same as the X7900 CPU choice.

Acer Ferrari 1100 Ultraportable Announced

Acer Ferrari 1000 (Ferrari 1100 Image Not Available Yet)Acer has announced the Ferrari 1100, which is the latest addition to the PC maker’s Ferrari-branded notebook series.

According to the Acer’s website for the German market, the Ferrari 1100 is an ultraportable laptop featuring a 12.1-inch display, and an AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processor. This notebook incorporates the ATI Radeon X1250 integrated graphics, a Dolby certified surround sound system, a hard disk drive of up to 250GB, and a slot-loading DVD burner. The Acer Ferrari 1100 has a built-in 802.11a/b/g/draft-N wireless module, and a fingerprint reader, the press release says.

Five Intel’s 45nm Laptop CPUs Coming in January 2008

IntelIntel will launch in January 2008 five 45-nanometer dual core laptop processors, designed for use in the chip maker’s “Santa Rosa Refresh” laptop platform, DigiTimes reports.

These 45nm CPUs, codenamed “Penryn“, will have the model names: X9000 for 2.8GHz CPU, T9500 for 2.6GHz, T9300 for 2.5GHz, T8300 for 2.4GHz, and T8100 for 2.1GHz and be priced at US$851, US$530, US$316, US$241 and US$209 in 1000-unit tray quantities, respectively.

MSI PR210 YA Ultraportable Features Color Choices, HDMI Output

MSI PR210 YAMSI Computer has unveiled its new 12-inch widescreen PR210 YA Edition ultraportable laptop featuring an AMD’s processor technology and Denim Blue, Coral Pink and Lime Green color choices.

The MSI PR210 YA incorporates the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Mobile TK-53 (1.7 GHz) processor and the ATI Radeon Xpress 1270 integrated graphics. The notebook has 1GB of DDR2 system memory, a 120GB SATA hard drive, a DVD burner, a 802.11b/g wireless LAN connection, and a built-in Bletooth module.
