AT&T Sierra Wireless AirCard 881 LaptopConnectThe Sierra Wireless AirCard 881 LaptopConnect card for AT&T 3G wireless network is now available. This Type II PC Card for notebooks supports enhanced upload speeds between 500 Kbps and 800 Kbps reportedly.

“Compatible with High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technologies, the AirCard 881 PC will enable average upload speeds between 500 Kbps and 800 Kbps as AT&T commences the industry’s first U.S. deployment of High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA). After completion of comprehensive testing and certification, AT&T is rolling out HSUPA technology in its network today, with availability to be announced in select U.S. markets later this fall,” the press release says.

Fujitsu LifeBook A6110The Fujitsu LifeBook A6110, the company’s new affordable 15.4-inch laptop starting at $799 after rebates, is now available for purchase.

Based on the Intel “Santa Rosa” platform, the multimedia-oriented LifeBook A6110 series notebooks feature a Core 2 Duo processor and the Intel GM965 chipset with the GMA X3100 integrated graphics. The A6110 features 1GB or 2GB of system memory and a 160GB or 200GB hard drive, depending on configuration. There are also a DVD burner and the 1GB Intel Turbo Memory module for faster system booting and responsiveness. The notebook’s 15.4” widescreen display provides 1280-by-800 screen resolution.

Priced at $899, the Toshiba Satellite Pro A210-EZ2203X configuration features the AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-602 dual-core processor at 2GHz, the AMD M690V chipset with the integrated ATI Radeon X1200 graphics, 2GB of DDR2 system memory, and 802.11b/g wireless LAN.

Intel Showcases New Notebook Cooling Solutions

IntelIntel has unveiled its laptop computer cooling solution based on compressor technology, during the ongoing Developer Forum in Taiwan.

The showcased notebook cooling stand features three compressors which can reduce laptops’ temperature by around 10-degrees Celsius. The compressors can be also incorporated into notebooks’ internal cooling system, which currently consist of fans and heatsinks.

Four Asus Eee PC Models Officially Announced

Asus EEE PCAsustek has officially announced four Eee PC models. These low cost 7-inch laptops are the Asus Eee PC 8G, Eee PC 4G, Eee PC 4G Surf, and the Eee PC 2G Surf, weighing around 2 pounds each.

The best equipped is the Asus Eee PC 8G with 1GB of system memory and 8GB of built-in Flash memory storage, while the Eee PC 4G has 512 MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. Both models feature a built-in web camera and 3.5 hours of battery life.

Intel to Unveil CPU for OLPC XO Laptop Next Year

OLPC XOIntel plans to unveil a new processor for the One Laptop Per Child’s (OLPC) XO notebook and other ultra-low cost laptops at the Intel Developer Forum in Shanghai next April, Info World reports.

“No current Intel microprocessors fit the requirements of the OLPC, which uses a processor from Advanced Micro Devices, so Intel will design a new architecture specifically for the ultra-low cost laptop category”, said Mooly Eden, vice president and general manager of the mobile platforms group at Intel.

Hitachi to Produce Terabyte Laptop HDD

HitachiHitachi announced today it developed CPP-GMR, the world’s smallest read-head technology for hard drives, which is expected to quadruple current storage capacity limits to four terabytes (TB) on a desktop hard drive and one TB on a notebook HDD.

“Researchers at Hitachi have successfully reduced existing recording heads by more than a factor of two to achieve new heads in the 30-50 nanometer (nm) range, which is up to 2,000 times smaller than the width of an average human hair (approx. 70-100 microns). Called current perpendicular-to-the-plane giant magnetoresistive (CPP-GMR) heads, Hitachi’s new technology is expected to be implemented in shipping products in 2009 and reach its full potential in 2011”.

Asus to Release G2K(-A1) AMD-Based Gaming Laptop

Asus G2 Series - G2K-A1Asustek is preparing the release of the Asus G2K 17-inch gaming notebook, based on AMD/ATI technology.

The G2K, which looks like the Intel-powered G2S model, features the ATI RS690M chipset and the DirectX 10 compatible ATI HD2600 dedicated video card with 256MB of DDR3 video memory. It manages the laptop’s 17” 1920-by-1200 widescreen display. According to the product pages, the G2K-A1 model for the US market will come with the AMD Turion 64 X2 TL64 dual core processor at 2.2GHz, 2GB of system memory, a 160GB hard drive at 5,400rpm, and a DVD burner.

Dell Latitude XT Tablet PCDell is to release its first Tablet PC - the Latitude XT - on November 5th, according to the forum post on the French website LessDelliens.

The leaked specifications say the 12.1-inch Dell Latitude XT convertible notebook features the Core 2 Duo Ultra Low Voltage U7600 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, the ATI RS600ME/SB600 chipset with the Radeon Xpress 1250 integrated graphics, and support for up to 3GB of RAM.

Apple MacBookApple will introduce refreshed MacBook laptops in the first half of November, following the release of its Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” operating system later this month, Think Secret reports.

“With Leopard on track to hit stores October 26, the updated MacBooks could be in consumer hands by the first half of November, if not sooner,” according to the report.
