Alienware Area-51 m17x Gaming Laptop Launched

Alienware Area-51 m17xThe Alienware Area-51 m17x 17-inch gaming laptop is now available. The notebook sports dual Nvidia GeForce video cards, up to 1TB of storage space, and Intel Core 2 Extreme processors.

The m17x features a 17″ display supporting 1080p (1920-by-1200 pixels) high definition resolution. The screen is managed by dual Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTX, 8700M GT or 8600M GT dedicated graphics cards operating in SLI mode. The laptop comes with a 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme processor, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 1000GB of hard drive capacity using two 500GB HDD units. In addition, a hot-swappable third hard drive can be inserted into SmartBay, which is populated by default with a DVD burner or Blu-ray optical drive. This system is also configurable with a 64GB solid state drive and 1GB Intel Turbo Memory.

Dell says pink is identified by Pantone as one of the Top 10 Fashion Colors for Spring 2008. The PC maker added that pink is the second most popular color for their Inspiron laptops.

Nvidia Prepares MCP79 Chipset for Intel-Based Notebooks

NVIDIANvidia is going to release the MCP79, a new single-chip integrated chipset for “small form factor” notebooks with Intel’s processors, DailyTech reports.

“Each variant of MCP79 incorporates a DX10-capable GeForce graphics controller supporting Shader Model 4.0, NVIDIA’s VP3 video processor, and support for Hybrid Power/Hybrid SLI/Hybrid Performance,” the report says.

Averatec Voya 4473Averatec has announced its first semi-ruggedized laptop series - the Voya 4473 with a 14.1-inch XGA display and 15.4-inch widescreen Voya 6494.

The Voya 4473 and 6494 feature magnesium alloy outer cases, corner bumpers, an anti-shock mounted hard drive, Intel’s processors, graphics and connectivity, and Windows Vista Home Premium OS, according to company’s press release.

3K Longitude 4003K Computers announced the Longitude 400, its first low-cost mini-notebook PC.

The Longitude 400 ultraportable weighs under 2 pounds and includes a 7-inch display, Ingenic 400MHz single core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of Flash memory-based storage, and a full-size keyboard.

Toshiba Satellite Pro L300Toshiba today announced the addition of five new models to its Satellite Pro notebook family for budget-minded business users.

The new laptops include the 15.4-inch Satellite Pro L300 and L300D series, the M300 14.1-incher, Satellite Pro U400 with a 13.3″ display, as well as the L350 with a 17-inch screen.

Acer Announces Aspire 5920 Laptop with WiMax

Acer Aspire 5920Acer today unveiled its new Aspire 5920 notebook PC model, which features a built-in WiMax module. The laptop is planned to sell through Sprint Nextel and other companies, PC World reports.

The new 5920 will be available by the end of this year and will be sold along with WiMax service in a manner similar to the way mobile phones are sold along with service packages.

MSI Wind PC Low-Cost Ultraportable Announced

MSI Wind PCMSI has officially announced an ultrapotable laptop called the Wind PC, which will compete with the Asus Eee PC in the low-cost notebook market.

“The Wind will come with either an 8.9- or 10-inch display option featuring LED backlight technology and a resolution of 1024×600. The system weights around 1kg, according to MSI, and includes a 2.5-inch hard drive with storage capacity of 80GB. The notebooks will include Windows XP and, unlike some other vendors, MSI has not mentioned any plans to offer a Linux-based version so far,” DigiTimes reports.

Alienware Releases RC1 BIOS Update for m15x

Alienware Area-51 m15xAlienware released the Release Candidate 1 version of the X32 BIOS for its Area-51 m15x 15.4-inch gaming notebook. The RC1 resolves any remaining performance issues left open by the previous X30 beta version, the company has announced.

The resolved problems in the m15x are related to its video card getting too hot and downclocking to reduce temperature, which also reduced gaming performance.

The 2133 Mini-Note low-cost ultraportable is currently offered with Windows Vista Business, Vista Home Basic, or SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 OS.

Asus Eee PC 900Asustek officially announced the Asus Eee PC 900, the second generation of company’s low-cost ultraportable laptop.

Along with other innovations, the 2.2-pound Eee PC 900 mini-notebooks provide bigger displays, larger amounts of RAM, and more data storage space, when compared to the older Eee PC (700/701) models.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3000The first notebook PCs with the latest AMD’s ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3000 Series video cards have arrived in the U.S. market.

The lower-end ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 with 40 stream processing units, a 64-bit memory interface and 256MB of dedicated video memory is available in Toshiba’s new Satellite P305 and P305D 17-inch laptops. A more powerful GPU - the Mobility Radeon HD 3650 is present in select Satellite P305 models, as well as in the ASUS M50 Series M50Sa 15.4-inch entertainment notebook. The 3650 provides 120 stream processors, a 128-bit memory interface and 512MB or 1GB of dedicated VRAM, depending on system.

Lenovo IdeaPad U110B, U110RThe Lenovo IdeaPad U110 11.1-inch ultraportable notebook is coming soon to the United States, according to product pages at J&R.

The 2.3-pound IdeaPad U110 will be available at J&R in at least two versions - the black U110B and the U110R with a red top cover. The both models feature the Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 low-voltage processor at 1.6GHz, 3GB of RAM, and a 120GB hard drive. The laptop, which is only 0.7-inch high, does not include a built-in optical drive.
