Dell Studio 15 Reviewed by PC Mag, CNet
The Dell Studio 15, a 15.4-inch mainstream consumer notebook, has been reviewed by PC Magazine and CNet.
This Intel Centrino-based laptop fills the gap between the affordable Inspiron and higher-end XPS 15.4-inchers. It is claimed to offer a great design at low prices, outstanding performance, and an excellent keyboard. The other positive sides of the Studio 15 are a wide selection of options when configuring the notebook and a variety of color choices, as well as included HDMI output and remote control.
Asustek Prepares Eee PC 904/905 Models
Asustek is planning to launch the ASUS Eee PC 904 and 905 low-cost ultraportable notebook models, which have an 8.9-inch panel but use a similar chassis and keyboard as the Eee PC 1000 10.2-inch models, DigiTimes reports.
“The Eee PC 904 and 905 will adopt Atom processors and the major difference between the two and the previous 901 model is that they feature a bigger keyboard. Asustek is still evaluating whether to make changes to the two models’ battery and storage capacity,” the report says.
Intel Montevina-Based Asus M70VM, M50VM Available for Preorder
The new Asus M70 and M50 entertainment laptop models, based on Intel Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform, are now available for preorder through Ozdirect.com.
Along with the new Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 45nm processor at 2.53GHz, the listed M70VM-7U005G 17-inch notebook and M50VM-AS001G 15.4-incher feature the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 512MB video cards and 4GB of DDR2 memory.

Toshiba Announces AMD Puma-Based Satellite Laptops
Toshiba has announced that select models of its Satellite notebook PC series are now equipped with AMD “Puma” mobile platform.
The “Puma”-based Satellite laptops, including the P300D, A300D, M300D, U400D, L300D, and L350D, are offered with variations of AMD’s Athlon Dual Core QL, Turion Dual Core RM, and Turion Ultra ZM processors.

The Dell Studio 15 is based on Intel’s Centrino mobile technology including 965GM/PM chipsets and Core 2 Duo processors. The new laptop supports up to 4GB of system memory and comes with up to 320GB of hard drive space and a slot-load DVD burner or Blu-Ray Combo. Notebook’s 15.4″ glossy widescreen display features three resolution options: 1280×800, 1440×900 with LED backlight, and 1920×1200. The screen is managed by Intel’s integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 or an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450 256MB dedicated video card.
Dell Studio 17 Overview
Dell announced today the Studio 17, a new 17-inch highly customizable consumer laptop.
The Dell Studio 17 is based on Intel’s Centrino mobile technology, which includes Intel 965GM/PM chipsets and Core 2 Duo processors. The notebook supports up to 4GB of RAM and comes with up to 640GB of storage space, using two 320GB hard drives. It is equipped with a slot-load DVD burner or Blu-Ray Combo, depending on customer’s choice. Laptop’s 17″ widescreen display with glossy coating features two resolution options: 1440×900, with optional LED backlight, and 1920×1200. The display is managed by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 integrated GPU or the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 256MB dedicated graphics.
Dell Launches Studio-Branded Laptops
Dell today introduced the Studio 15 and Studio 17 notebook PCs, which are company’s first “Studio”-branded consumer products.
“These laptops combine sleek designs, striking visual color elements and personalization options with features such as standard built-in webcam, capacitive touch media control buttons, slot load drives, and optional mercury-free LED displays and built-in mobile broadband,” Dell says.
Panasonic Toughbook CF-U1 Atom-Based UMPC Announced
As expected, Panasonic today announced the availability of the Toughbook CF-U1, “the first ultra mobile PC (UMPC) to integrate the new low power Intel Atom processor in a rugged handheld computer for use in the field”.
Along with the Atom Z520 CPU at 1.33GHz, the 2.3-pound Panasonic Toughbook CF-U1 features a 5.6-inch sunlight viewable touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024-by-600 pixels and LED backlight, 1GB of system memory, and a 16GB or 32GB solid state drive.
HP Pavilion dv5z Launched
Hewlett-Packard has just released the HP Pavilion dv5z Entertainment Notebook PC, featuring AMD’s Puma mobile platform, a 15.4-inch display, and a new design.
The Pavilion dv5z is configurable with the AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core, Turion X2 Dual-Core Ultra, and Athlon mobile CPUs. The laptop comes with up to 4GB of RAM, the ATI Radeon HD 3200 integrated or ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB dedicated graphics, up to 320GB of hard drive space, and a DVD burner with ugprade option to Blu-Ray ROM.
Dell Releases Dual 8800M GTX Upgrade Kit for XPS M1730
Dell is now offering the Dual NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX upgrade kit for existing XPS M1730 customers who have configured their notebooks with lower-performance GPUs, such as the 8700M GT.
The video card can be purchased from Dell.com, either as a stand-alone part, or with an installation service for users that don’t want to install the GPU themselves. For customers that want to do it temselves, Dell has provided a service manual, as well as a how-to video.
Kohjinsha SC3, SX3 Available for Preorder
Kohjinsha’s new SC3 and SX3 mini Tablet PCs, based on the Intel Atom processor, are now available for preorder via Direct from Japan importer.
The 1.76-pound Kohjinsha SC3 has a 7-inch 1024×600 display, single web camera, and a battery life of 3.2 hours. The 2.65-pound Kohjinsha SX3 has an 8.9-inch 1280×768 screen, dual web cams, built-in DVD multi-writer, and a 4.2-hour battery life.

HP Pavilion dv5t Reviewed
Laptop Magazine has reviewed recently the HP Pavilion dv5t 15.4-inch laptop PC, which is a part of company’s upcoming Intel Centrino 2 “Montevina“-based enterntainment notebook lineup.
According to the review, the Pavilion dv5t sports a “futuristic-chic” design and fast performance, provided by Intel’s new Core 2 Duo 9000-series 45-nanometer processor. In fact, Laptop Mag claims the dv5t is one of the fastest notebooks they have ever tested.
AMD CPU for Netbooks Coming by the End of 2008
DigiTimes reports that AMD has recently notified its partners it is developing a processor which will compete against Intel Atom and Via Nano CPUs in the low-cost PC market.
AMD’s new chips are expected to be launched by the end of 2008, while netbooks based on these CPUs will begin shipping in the first half of 2009, according to DigiTimes’ sources at PC makers.

Compal Unveils Intel Montevina-Based Laptops
Compal, an original design manufacturer (ODM), has unveiled the new barebone laptop lineup, which is based on Intel Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform.
The new models include the 15.4-inch JHL90 and JHL91, and the 14.1-inch JHT00 and JHT01. The JHL90 comes with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT video card, while the smaller JHT00 has the GeForce 9300M GS GPU. The other two notebooks - JHL91 and JHT01 - feature Intel’s GMA X4500 HD integrated graphics.
