Alienware Area-51 m15x Now with NVIDIA Quadro FX 3600M
Alienware has added the the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3600M video card to the Area-51 m15x high performance notebook.
The world’s first 15.4-inch laptop with the Quadro FX 3600M is aimed at on-the-go digital content professionals that use CAD, DCC and scientific applications.
Asus G70 (G70S-X1) Available at Best Buy
The Asus G70 17-inch gaming laptop - the model G70S-X1 - is now available for preorder in the United States through Best Buy.
The Asus G70S-X1 is based on Intel Centrino “Santa Rosa Refresh” platform, and includes the Core 2 Duo T8100 processor at 2.1GHz and dual NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT graphics cards in SLI mode with a total of 1GB of dedicated DDR3 video memory. The notebook sports 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a 400GB hard drive at 7,200rpm, and a DVD burner.

PC Microworks Offers Edge Quad-Core Laptop
PC Microworks now offers the new Edge 15.4-inch gaming laptop, featuring the quad core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 processor option, Intel’s Centrino 2 mobile technology, and the NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GT video card.
The estimated ship date for an Edge configuration with the QX9300 (2.53GHz/1066MHz/12MB) is August 15. When configured with the Intel Core 2 Duo P9500, T9600, or Core 2 Extreme X9100, the laptop ships immediately. The quad core CPU choice adds $780 to the overall notebook price, when compared to the basic P9500 processor option.
Dell Releases BIOS Updates to Prevent Nvidia GPU Issues
Dell has released BIOS updates for select notebooks to help reduce the likelihood of recently revealed Nvidia graphics card issues.
The affected Nvidia GPUs are experiencing higher than expected failure rates causing video problems such as no video, multiple images on the screen, and random characters or lines on the display.
Dell Latitude XT Now Supports Multi-Touch
Dell has recently added multi-touch capabilities to the Latitude XT Tablet PC via a free software upgrade.
The new capabilities of the 12.1-inch convertible laptop include scroll, zoom, and double-tap gestures.
Toshiba Reveals Atom-Based UMPC Prototype
Toshiba has revealed a prototype of an ultra-mobile PC with a 5.6-inch touchscreen display, Intel’s Atom processor, a 64GB solid state drive, and GPS receiver.
PC Authority reports the keyboard in the device is ditched in favour of a touchscreen keyboard.
Sony VAIO FW Series Overview
The newly designed Sony VAIO FW Series multimedia-oriented notebook, which features a 16.4-inch display and Intel’s Centrino 2 technology, is now available for preorder.
The VAIO FW includes the latest Intel Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processor, the GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, and up to 400GB of hard drive storage. The laptop comes with a DVD burner, Blu-Ray burner or Blu-Ray combo drive, depending on configuration.

Panasonic Upgrades Toughbook CF-52, CF-74 with Centrino 2
Panasonic has announced recently upgrades to its semi-rugged Toughbook CF-52 15.4-inch laptop and 13.3-inch Toughbook CF-74 ultraportable.
“Both the Toughbook CF-52 and Toughbook CF-74 now incorporate the new Intel Centrino 2 processor technology. In addition, video and graphics capabilities have been significantly enhanced, hard drive capacity has been increased to 160GB, and Wi-Fi performance expanded to include 802.11 Draft N,” the press release says.
Asus Eee PC 1000HD Announced
Asustek has added the Asus Eee PC 1000HD model to its low-cost ultraportable notebook lineup.
The 3.2-pound Eee PC 1000HD has a 10-inch display, the Intel Celeron “Dothan” 353 processor at 900MHz, a traditional HDD with 80GB capacity, 1GB or 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 6-cell battery for “up to 5 hours” of battery life, and Windows XP Home or Linux OS.
Sony VAIO SR Series Overview
The Sony VAIO SR Series 13.3-inch consumer laptops, based on Intel Centrino 2 technology, are now available for preorder.
Starting at 4.14 pounds, the 1-inch thin VAIO SR features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo 45nm processor, the GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, a 320GB hard drive, and DVD burner. Its 13.3″ display has LED backlight and a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.
Sony VAIO Z Series Overview
Sony has unveiled recently a new line of ultraportable PCs – the VAIO Z Series 13.1-inch notebooks for “busy executives”.
Weighing just over 3 pounds, the VAIO Z is based on Intel’s Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform. The laptop includes the latest Intel Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processor, and enables on-the-fly switching between the power-saving GMA 4500MHD graphics chip and the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 128MB/256MB for better performance. Other core components of the Sony VAIO Z include up to 4GB of new DDR3 memory, up to 320GB hard drive or up to 128GB (64GBx2) of solid state drive storage, and a DVD burner or Blu-Ray burner.

Asustek’s new M70 Series Asus M70Vm-X1 and M70Vm-B1 17-inch multimedia notebooks, based on Intel Centrino 2 “Montevina” platform, are now available in the United States.
The M70Vm-X1 and M70Vm-B1 are powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz and P8400 2.26GHz processors respectively, and come with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 512MB dedicated video card, 4GB or RAM, and a 320GB hard drive.

Centrino 2-Based Asus M50Vm X1, A1, B1 Now Available in the US
Asustek’s new M50 Series Centrino 2-based 15.4-inch notebooks - the Asus M50Vm - are now available for purchase through NewEgg.
The offered Asus M50Vm-X1 and M50Vm-A1 are powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processors at 2.26GHz, while the M50Vm-B1 comes with the T9400 at 2.53GHz. The notebooks feature 4GB of DDR2 RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS dedicated graphics cards with 1GB of video memory.
Lenovo ThinkPad SL300 Overview
The Lenovo ThinkPad SL300 is an upcoming Intel Centrino 2-based 13.3-inch 4.6-pound ultraportable in PC maker’s new SL notebook line, which balances between business computing and multimedia functions.
The 4.6-pound SL300 laptop comes with the new 45-nanometer Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” processor with a 1066MHz front side bus, up to 6MB of cache, and clock speeds ranging from 2.26GHz to 2.53GHz, depending on model. It will be also offered with 800MHz FSB Core 2 Duo chips.
