Gateway NV 15.6″ Series Available, Start at $500
Gateway’s new NV Series affordable entertainment laptops are now available at retailers in the US.
The 15.6-inch Gateway NV comes in a variety of configurations that include the AMD Athlon 64 X2, AMD Turion X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 500GB of hard drive space, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a DVD burner or Blu-ray optical drive, a built-in web camera, an HDMI output, and Dolby Sound Room technology. The models with AMD CPUs feature the ATI Mobility Radeon 3200 HD graphics, whereas the Intel-based systems include the GMA 4500MHD GPU.
Windows 7 Available for Pre-Order
Microsoft’s Windows 7 is available for pre-order at various retailers who offer instant savings for early orders of the upcoming operating system.
Windows 7, scheduled for release on October 22, is available for pre-order in three editions: Home Premium ($120 $50), Professional ($200 $100), and Ultimate ($220). The discounts are valid while supplies last. The prices are for Upgrade versions, aimed at users that already own a computer with Windows Vista OS. “Full” Home Premium, Pro, and Ultimate are priced at $200, $300, and $320.
Toshiba Releases Satellite M500, A500, P500 Series
Toshiba has launched three newly designed Satellite laptop series - the 14-inch M500/M505, 16-inch A500/A505, and 18.4″ Satellite P500/P505.
With prices starting at $700, the Satellites feature Intel’s or AMD’s processors, displays with a 16:9 aspect ratio and LED backlighting in select models, illuminating keyboards, multi-touch trackpads, slot loading DVD drives, a new button for power consumption management, and the Fusion Finish with a new black Sonic pattern.
HP Announces Mini 5101 Netbook
Hewlett-Packard announced today the newly designed HP Mini 5101 10.1-inch netbook, featuring the Intel Atom N280 CPU at 1.66GHz, up to 320GB HDD at 7,200rpm or an 80GB solid state drive, Windows XP Home or SUSE Linux OS, and a 4-cell or 6-cell battery.
The LED backlight display has a resolution of 1024-by-600 or 1366-by-768 pixels. It’s managed by the Intel GMA 950 video chip.
Lenovo ThinkPad T400s Launched
Lenovo has announced the ThinkPad T400s 14.1″ thin-and-light business laptop, measuring in at 0.83 inches at its thinnest point and starting at 3.91 pounds.
The T400s, “nearly 20 percent” lighter than its ThinkPad T400 predecessor, features the Intel Core 2 Duo SP9400 2.4GHz or SP9600 2.53GHz processor, GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 250GB HDD or up to 128GB solid state drive, up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, and a DVD burner or Blu-ray optical drive.
Toshiba Mini NB205 Netbook Now Available
Toshiba’s first netbook for the US market - the Mini NB205 series - is now available for purchase.
The netbook features a 10.1″ 1024×600 LED backlight display, the Intel Atom N280 CPU at 1.66GHz, Intel’s GMA 950 integrated graphics, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive with Windows XP installed, “full-sized keyboard and large touchpad”, and a 6-cell battery for “up to 9 hours” of run time.
Sony VAIO NW Series Unveiled
Sony has unveiled the VAIO NW consumer laptop series, featuring a 15.5″ display, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512MB dedicated graphics, and a Blu-Ray Combo drive in select models.
The NW also includes a chicklet style keyboard, built-in web camera and microphone, HDMI and VGA outputs, WiFi, a Gigabit LAN port, three USB ports an ExpressCard slot, SD card and Memory Stick PRO slots, and a Firewire port.

HP Pavilion dv2z Now Customizable
The HP Pavilion dv2z 12.1-inch entertainment ultraportable laptop, initially available as the preconfigured dv2-1030 system, can be customized and purchased now at the company’s website.
The AMD Yukon-based dv2z can be ordered with the single-core Athlon Neo MV-40, Athlon Neo X2 dual-core L335, or Turion Neo X2 dual-core L625 CPU, all clocked at 1.6GHz. The notebook features up to 4GB of DDR2 memory and up to 500GB of hard drive space, as well as an optional external optical drive - a DVD burner or a Blu-ray Combo. Video card choices include the integrated ATI Radeon X1250 or the Radeon 3410 HD Premium 512MB dedicated GPU with support for high-definition video content.
HP Mini 110 XP Netbook Overview
Hewlett-Packard’s recently announced netbook, the 10.1-inch HP Mini 110 XP is available for purchase starting today.
The Mini 110 XP runs Windows XP OS and comes with an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz or N280 1.66GHz processor, the GMA 950 integrated graphics, 1GB of DDR2 memory, a 160GB hard drive or up to 32GB of solid state drive storage, and a 3- or 6-cell battery. An optional Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator for 1080p video content is expected to be available in July.
HP Mini 110 Mi Linux Netbook Overview
HP’s new Linux-based netbook, the 10.1-inch HP Mini 110 Mi Edition is available now.
The Mini 110 Mi runs an HP-developed Linux interface, called Mobile Internet, and comes with an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz or N280 1.66GHz CPU, the GMA 950 integrated graphics, up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM, up to 250GB of hard drive or up to 64GB of solid state drive storage, and a 3- or 6-cell battery.
Apple Updates MacBook Pro Lineup; 13-Incher Included
Apple has updated the MacBook Pro lineup which now includes laptops with 13-inch displays, along with standard-sized 15-inch and 17-inch models. The new notebooks also sport an embedded battery for “up to 7 hours” of run time on a single charge, and an SD card reader instead of the ExpressCard slot in select models.
The 13″ model replaces the original aluminum MacBook and features upgraded core components. The other MacBook Pros and the MacBook Air got upgrades, too, as well as price cuts.
HP Mini 1101 Netbook Overview
Hewlett Packard has recently unveiled the HP Mini 1101, a new 10.1-inch netbook for business users.
The Mini 1101, based on Intel’s Atom N270 1.6GHz CPU and 945GSE chipset, comes with 1GB or 2GB of DDR2 memory, up to 250GB of hard drive space or a 32GB solid state drive, and a 3- or 6-cell battery. The netbook with Windows XP Home preinstalled supports up to 1GB of RAM, whereas Windows Vista Business-based systems support up to 2GB.
MSI X-Slim X320 Thin & Light Notebook Now Shipping in US
The MSI X-Slim X320, “the world’s lightest and slimmest 13-inch notebook”, is now available in the United States.
Newegg and Mwave sell the X320-037US model with the Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz CPU, 2GB RAM, a 250GB HDD, a 4-cell battery and Windows Vista Home Premium OS. The 2.8-pound laptop, that measures only 6mm at its thinnest and 20mm at its widest point, is based on the Intel Menlow US15W chipset with the GMA 500 integrated graphics and doesn’t include an optical drive.

Fujitsu M2010 Netbook Now Available in US
Fujitsu has launched the M2010, the company’s first netbook for the North American market.
The 2.5-pound Fujitsu M2010 features a 10.1-inch 1024×576 LED backlight display, the Intel Atom N270 processor at 1.6GHz, the 945GSE chipset, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive with Windows XP Home OS, and a 3-cell battery for up to 2.5 hours of battery life or a 6-cell unit for up to 5 hours.
