AMDAMD has announced this week the “Yukon“, a platform for ultraportable notebooks that enables “exceedingly thin and light OEM designs with rich entertainment capabilities at an affordable price”.

Yukon is based on the new AMD Athlon Neo processor, ATI Radeon X1250 integrated graphics and optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3410 discrete GPU.

AMD’s platform supports smooth 1080p high definition video playback, as well as 3D gaming when combined with the optional Radeon HD 3410 Premium graphics. Available video outputs include HDMI and DVI, the chip maker says.

According to the specifications of the Yukon-based HP Pavilion dv2 notebook, the platform supports DDR2 533MHz memory. The dv2 features the AMD Athlon Neo MV-40 processor with a clock speed of 1.6GHz, 512KB of L2 cache, and support for 64-bit computing. The package of the Athlon Neo has a footprint of 27×27mm and a low profile of 2.5mm reducing platform’s height up to 50%, according to AMD.

The new platform includes “latest generation thermal solutions” and AMD PowerNow! technology for dynamic power management.

The first Yukon-powered ultraportables are expected to hit the market in April.
