Acer Aspire 5920 Acer today announced the Aspire 5920 multimedia notebook featuring the latest Intel Centrino Duo “Santa Rosa” technology and a new Acer “Gemstone” design.

Acer Aspire 5920 “Gemstone” laptops feature the 15.4-inch widescreen displays with 1280 x 800 resolution and 8ms response time, as well as full range of Intel Core 2 Duo processors, from T7100 with clock speed of 1.8GHz to T7700 at 2.4GHz. Regarding graphics, there is DirectX 10-ready nVidia GeForce 8600M GT video card with 256MB of dedicated video memory, which can be expanded up to 2048MB using nVidia’s TurboCache technology for system memory sharing. Acer’s new notebook is offered with up to 4GB of DDR2 system memory.

The 5920 has Dolby Home Theater Virtual Surround Sound speakers, a high-definition audio-video port (HDMI), and an optional TV Tuner (DVB-T). The laptop is equipped with up to 200GB hard drive. Users can choose between a DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive and an HD-DVD drive. One of the novelties in Aspire 5920 is an Intel TurboMemory, codenamed “Robson”, which uses non-volatile Flash memory to increase system responsiveness.

Acer Aspire 5920 “Intel TurboMemory enables the majority of application workloads to be written and read from a system cache instead of the HDD. Robson technology also offers increased power savings,” Acer explains.

Regarding Internet and connectivity, Acer’s 5920 features 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless and Gigabit Ethernet. On selected models, the Aspire 5920 features the Acer Bluetooth ExpressCard VoIP phone.

“Used in combination with the integrated Acer CrystalEye camera, the VoIP phone guarantees real-time videoconferencing and effortless broadcasting,” Acer says.

Currently, there is no information on the Acer 5920 “Gemstone’s” ports and slots, but it is known it has 5-in-1 media card reader and an ExpressCard slot.

The Aspire 5920 series comes with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate preinstalled.

The pricing and availability dates are currently unknown.
