Acer Aspire 9810 20.1-Inch Laptop Goes Core 2 Duo

Acer America today announced Acer Aspire 9810 laptop to update it’s 20.1-inch widescreen notebook line with the new Intel’s Core 2 Duo Merom processor. This Home Entertainment notebook features NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics card, HD DVD optical drive and two Acer 3DSonic stereo speakers and one Acer BasSonic subwoofer, while Dolby Digital Live allows the Acer Aspire 9810 to be hooked up via a single digital connection to a Dolby Digital-equipped audio/video receiver or digital speaker system. The laptop also has integrated an analog and digital TV tuner.

According to company’s Worldwide site, Acer Aspire 9810 will support storage space of up to 320GB, by incorporating two 5400rpm SATA hard drives. The notebook supports up to 4GB of SDRAM memory. Regarding communications, it has integrated Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and Voice and Video over Internet Protocol (VVoIP), “the complete communication solution”. The Acer Aspire 9810 features 1.3 megapixel high-resolution Acer OrbiCam mounted on the top of the notebook’s screen, while Acer VisageON technology automatically tracks your face and centers it on screen.

There is no information about its price and availability date in the U.S. The 9800 model, the Acer Aspire 9810’s precursor with similar specifications had $2800 price tag, when showed up.

I can’t fing the 320GB version of this laptop anywhere.

The 320GB is achived by using two 160GB HDDs. Maybe there is no preconfigured model with 320GB. Acer only says the laptop supports up to 320GB. Regards.

I can’t find any reviews on this machine that say much about it’s TV performance, and the only one I did find said he tried hooking it up to cable and didn’t get a very good picture, although he conceded that he wasn’t sure if he had connected it correctly. I called Acer Pre-sales technical support and they said that the machine does not have a coax jack for its TV IN, but rather some sort of universal jack that (with the help of one of the three adapters that ship with it) can be made to fit a coax cable coming from a cable box or satelite receiver. But without actually seeing the results of such a connection in person or at least hearing of someone that did it and got a great picture, I’m hesitant to drop close to $3 Grand on a machine that I’m not sure will perform one of the key functions for which I’m purchasing it. Can you help me here? Anyway that you can verify that this machine does indeed display a good video image when hooked up to my cable TV outlet? Thanks.

I purchased An Acer Aspire 9810 20″ Notebook April 2, 2007 to enhance my 3D Modeling work with SolidWorks.
They advertise that this machine supports 4 Gig of RAM. It does not. I purchased 4 Gig from Micron. The system only shows 3 Gig. The Acer Tech Support people told me I probably have a bad memory chip. I tested them. They are good. After a week of phone calls, I found out from 3 sources what the people at Acer failed to tell me. The 32 bit Vista Operating System only supports 3 Gig of Ram. (One of my 3 sources was Microsoft) I thought I would just install the 64 Bit Vista Operating System in a dual boot setup. Now I find out the Intel Processor in my computer does not support 64 bit. I still like my new computer but it is not all they advertise. If you have a solution, I’d love to hear it. In the mean time let the buyer beware. References to support for 4 Gig are simply not true.

Matt, Is your CPU Core 2 Duo or Core Duo?

Only Core 2 Duo is 64-bit. If you have Core Duo it can be MAYBE upgraded to Core 2 Duo. I know some Core Duo laptops need just a C2D and a BIOS update to become 64-bit.

Along with 64-bit Vista you will also need 64-bit Solid Works in order to use more than 3GB of RAM when you run that application.

I also purchased 4 gigs and cannot get them to work. Acer seems to be useless and said to buy other modules. Yet I have now gone through 3 RMA’s with the memory company. My bios read 3096 MB not 4+. This doesn’t make any sense. I’m using Windows Xp Pro Media Edition on an AS9810-664 Core Duo T7400. Can anyone assist?

Drew- My friend your xp operating system does not support 4 gigs of ram as I imagine it is 32 bit. In addition, your processor is probably not 64 bit compliant either. You can just run your 4 gig and everything will be fine; your system simply won’t utilize all of it.

I have been unable to find the correct cable to enable the connection of the this notebook to our TV coax cable, can anyone point me to a supplier.

I Purchased an Acer Aspire 9810 Laptop.Tried to Update BIOS but power went off during the process.
Now the power lights alright but no display on the screen,how can I resolve this problem.
