Acer said it won’t need to make any recall related to a Sony battery cells production glitch, causing laptop batteries to overheat. For the small number of Acer laptops that do use Sony materials in their batteries, Acer’s battery charging mechanism ensures the batteries will not have problems, said Gianfranco Lanci, president of Acer, at an investors conference on Friday.
In the USA, Dell, Apple, Lenovo, Toshiba, Gateway and Fujitsu recalled the Sony-made batteries due to a potential fire hazard. HP earlier this month announced that it will not recall Sony’s batteries used in its notebooks since it “reviewed and rejected Sony battery parts for nearly a year before buying any”.
