Alienware launched yesterday the M17 gaming notebook, featuring a 17-inch display, ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU technology, and Intel’s quad core processor.
The Alienware M17 notebook can be configured with dual ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870 512MB graphics cards, the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 CPU, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, up to 1 terabyte of storage using dual 500GB hard drives, a Blu-Ray reader, 1920×1080 display, and optional HDTV tuner.
The M17 also has two built-in speakers with subwoofer, a 2MP web camera, fingerprint reader, wireless, Bluetooth, and Gigabit Ethernet connections, HDMI and VGA outputs, three USB ports, a USB/eSATA combo port, ExpressCard slot, Firewire, and 7-in-1 media card reader.
The 9.5-pound gaming system comes with a 12-cell battery, a full size keyboard with a separate numeric keypad, the Skullcap case design and Stealth Black finish. It’s a “soft-touch, matte black finish that protects the system from fingerprints and scratches.”
Alienware’s M17 runs Windows Vista operating system.
It costs from $1,399 to more than $4,000, depending on configuration.
The m17 is a nice machine. And I like that alienware is going the AMD route - even though AMD is still behind Intel. It’s always nice to see a little competition!
What I’d really like to see, though, is the m17 against the Factor Gaming X-91 (http://www.factorgaming.com/Gaming_Laptop_X-91.php)
I’m getting a gaming laptop and I when I compare these two (the m17 and the x-91)…I don’t see how they compare! The X-91 can be configured with a 3.0GHz Quad core CPU and dual 9800m GTX’s at a lower price. I mean, is there something else the alienware has (beside looks)?
It’d be nice to see someone compare the two. Hopefully someone here will do it!
“is there something else the alienware has (beside looks)?”
Nope, not really. Hence the name “Boutique brand”.
