AMD and ATI will jointly launch a new laptop platform, currently codenamed Yokohama, by the fourth quarter of this year. Targeted to compete with Intel’s Napa Refresh notebook platform, Yokohama utilizes AMD Turion 64 X2 processors and ATI’s future chipsets, currently known as the RS690M, RS690DC and RS790M. Yokohama platform may also include WLAN chipsets from Broadcom, Atheros Communications or Airgo Networks, Digi Times reports according to sources at Taiwan-based notebook makers familiar with ATI’s latest roadmap.
It is reported that using ATI’s chipset solutions, AMD will likely build its own Centrino-like platform for high-performance laptops.
