AMD will introduce this fall Hybrid Graphics technology, a combination of integrated and discrete graphics for notebook computers, AMD’s European technical director for sales and marketing Giuseppe Amato announced this week.
“The basic concept of this technology is the system can run power-saving integrated graphics when using battery power. When the platform is connected to a wall outlet, a discrete graphics card immediately switches on, delivering higher performance. This switching will work without a restart and its behavior should be user-configurable – at least to some degree,” DailyTech reports.
Amato said the 65nm versions of its current AMD Turion 64 X2 dual-core processors “will appear anytime soon to the market.”
He has also confirmed that in 2008 AMD will reveal its Griffin mobile processors, based on forthcoming K10 CPUs.
AMD’s plans for Hybrid Graphics, as well as for processors and notebook platforms in 2007 and 2008, were previously announced at Company’s Analyst Day in December last year.
Earlier reports say video chip maker Nvidia is working on technology called SLI Power, also combining an integrated and discrete graphics.
