Leading OEMs and system builders worldwide are expected to start introducing AMD LIVE! Ultra notebook PCs, based on the upcoming “Puma” mobile platform, during the second half of 2008, AMD announced this week at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The AMD LIVE! Ultra is the company’s new brand, “designed to help consumers fully enjoy The Ultimate Visual Experience”. Laptop and desktop systems based on this technology provide high-definition video, capability to view multiple video streams simultaneously, and energy-efficient design and the scalability to meet varying performance needs of entertainment applications, according to an AMD’s press release.
The chip maker’s next generation notebook platform, codenamed “Puma”, features the new AMD Turion Ultra dual core mobile processor, codenamed “Griffin”, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD graphics, and ATI-branded chipsets.
The “Puma” includes a hybrid graphics technology called PowerXpress, which utilizes both an integrated graphics processor for better battery life and a dedicated GPU for high video performance. This technology allows users to switch between the integrated and discrete graphics dynamically without rebooting notebook.
The new hardware is accompanied by the AMD LIVE! Explorer entertainment software, offering an “immersive, 3D approach to browsing a PC’s complete digital media library while also enjoying a video, TV program or Internet access in the same window”.
