Apple Small MacBook IllustrationApple will unveil its 13-inch ultraportable laptop during the Macworld Expo and Conference in January 2008, AppleInsider reports.

The new notebook will be approximately 50 percent lighter and strikingly slimmer than the company’s current 15-inch professional MacBook Pro offering reportedly. It will have a solid state drive, instead of a standard hard drive, as well as a LED backlight display. On the other side, it will not include a built-in optical drive.

According to some other rumors, the Apple’s ultraportable will feature a space-saving collapsible connection receptacle on the rear of the unit. In addition, some of the company’s upcoming notebooks might utilize a wide notebook touchpad with multi-touch capabilities.
