Asustek Computer (Asus) will soon introduce the “ASmobile” brand for the barebone laptop market. ASmobile laptops will be positioned as notebooks for value-added applications, with key markets including DIY and desktop-replacement segments, and will not target the low-price segment, Digi Times reports according to internal sources at the company.
“The ASmobile brand is aimed to show more flexibility, following the “open architecture” concept. Notebooks under this brand will feature light and slim design, combining standard specifications and stability”, the sources said.
Asustek will release its first ASmobile laptop in the fourth quarter of 2006. It is reported that the shipments of ASmobile-branded notebooks will amount to 100,000-200,000 units in 2006, and the output will grow next year.
