Asus A8JsAsustek today announced the 14.1 widescreen Asus A8Js laptop series powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo (Merom) processor and the new NVIDIA GeForce 7700 dedicated graphics card with 512MB of video memory.

According to press release, the new GeForce GPU delivers 50% more pixel bandwidth than the previous NVIDIA GPU. Based on Mobile Intel 945PM Express Chipset, the Asus A8Js enables selection between five Merom processors (T7600, T7400, T7200, T5600, T5500) and has Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG network card. The A8Js supports up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, as same as SATA hard drive with up to 120GB of storage space. The new Asus notebook has built-in 0.35M pixel web-camera and an optional Bluetooth.

The Asus A8Js weights around 5.27 pounds with 6 cell battery pack. It comes with Windows XP Home or Professional operating system.

Regarding ports, it has 5x USB, 1x TV-Out, 1x DVI, 1x Card Reader, 1x Express Card, 1x IEEE1394, 1x VGA Out, 1x RJ11 and 1x RJ45.

“The 2-GHz Core 2 Duo T7200 processor delivered good productivity test results with a MobileMark05 score of 227. More impressive is the whopping 9,754 on 3DMark03, thanks to the 512MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7700 graphics engine, making the A8Js an affordable gaming portable in addition to a solid workaday PC,” Laptop Magazine published. The magazine says that tradeoff for graphics power of the A8Js is “short battery life, as the system lasted just 2 hours and 36 minutes”.

The Asus A8Js price starts at $1,499, according to the report. There is no information about its availability date.
