Asus G1S-A1, the first gaming notebook featuring Intel “Santa Rosa” platform and nVidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics, is now available for pre-order at EXcaliberPC.
Priced at $1,949, the Asus G1S-A1 is equipped with Intel PM965 chipset paired with the new Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 at 2.2GHz. The notebook’s 15.4-inch widescreen 1680×1050 glossy display is managed by GeForce 8600M GT dedicated graphics card with 256MB of VRAM, which is expandable up to 512MB using shared system memory. The 8600M GT graphics is compatible with forthcoming DirectX 10-based games and provides HDCP support. Asus G1S-A1 comes with a 2GB of DDR2 667MHz system RAM, and supports up to 4GB. Along with a 160GB SATA hard drive at 5400rpm rotational speed, this laptop has dual layer DVD burner featuring LightScribe technology.
Asus G1S-A1 provides 802.11A/G/N Wireless LAN, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth and a 56k modem, as well as built-in 1.3 megapixels camera and microphone for conferencing and chat. There are also four USB ports, Express card slot, MMC/SD/MS/MS-Pro card reader, Firewire, and eSATA external hard drive port. For audio/video output, the G1S-A1 utilizes HDMI, DVI-D, VGA, and S-Video ports.
The system weighs 6.8 lbs and ships with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
The similar 17-inch Asus G2S notebook is also expected to hit the market soon. Asus G1S and G2S have the same exterior design as their G1 and G2 precursors.
