Asus K55N-SA804

The 15.6-inch Asus K55N-SA804 from the entry-level entertainment K-series is yet another AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M-based laptop PC. All of the A8-powered notebooks have similar performance, so their main component- and feature-related differences are in hard drive capacity, RAM, connectivity options, and design.

Here’s how the processor performs against its competitors:

AMD A8-4500M PassMark Benchmark

Peformance of this chip is indeed sufficient for the majority of users, but if you have a chance to grab an Intel Core i3-powered configuration, go for it. Laptops with it have similar price tags.

With 4GB RAM representing a standard amount for today’s notebooks, a middle-sized 500GB HDD , the Radeon HD 7640G integrated graphics (better than Intel’s HD 3000 and 4000-series), DVD burner, HDMI video connector besides the older VGA monitor port, USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0, and plastic 1.4-inch thick chassis, the K55N-SA804 belongs to the average mainstream laptop category. However, its price of $380 is slightly below pricing of similarly equipped machines, usually retailing for about $400-$450. Because of that and its ability to complete routine day-to-day computing tasks without hassle, the K55N-HA8123K is a good buying choice.

    • Actually, the A8 is even considered to be a fake dual-core because it supports only one computing thread per core, whereas Intel’s QM quad chips support two, so you have a total of 8 threads.
