Asus Transformer Book Duet TD300LA

The Asus Transformer Book Duet TD300(LA) is a just announced 13.3-inch laptop/tablet convertible with detachable keyboard. With its dual-mode OS Windows-Android operation, it’s probably the most innovative among Windows devices on display at the 2014 CES Show in Las Vegas.

Asus explains that users can simply switch between Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2.2 operating systems on-the-fly, with a single push of the Instant Switch button or a virtual key on the tablet.

“The patented ASUS technology that powers Instant Switch offers many performance and productivity benefits over other dual-OS solutions, such as fast, smooth and seamless switching and the ability to resume each OS from where the user left off. As it does not use OS virtualization, Instant Switch also allows each OS to harness the full power of Intel’s latest processor technology,” the press release says.

The tablet portion of the Transformer Book Duet consists a 13.3-inch Full HD IPS display, up to the Intel Core i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, up to 128GB of solid state drive storage, a microSD card slot, audio jack, front-facing camera, 802.11ac WiFi, Bluetoth 4.0, and a 38WHr battery with an estimated battery life of around 5 hours in Windows and 6 hours in Android.

The keyboard dock houses a 1TB hard drive for extra storage, an Ethernet network port, one USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, and HDMI 1.4 video output.

Regarding dimensions, the tablet part measures 0.5″ thick and the dock measures 0.63″. Together, they weigh around 4.2 pounds, while the tablet standalone is 2.2 pounds heavy.

Asus hasn’t provided info on availability and pricing, but the word on the street is that it’ll start at $600 and arrive this spring.
