Asus Transformer Book TX300CA-DH71 Overview

Asus Transformer Book TX300CA-DH71

The ASUS Transformer Book isn’t just a usual Windows 8 touchscreen laptop. It provides users with possibility to detach its screen and use it as a tablet and still be a full-blown ultraportable laptop with a 13.3-inch display and the Intel Core-series processors. The first available Transformer Book configuration is the TX300CA-DH71 boasting the Core i7-3517U dual-core CPU, 4GB of RAM, and both a 128GB solid state drive and a 500GB hard disk.

The TX300CA-DH71 is generally a high-end notebook, not only because the top-notch i7 ultrabook-class dual-core chip running at up to 3GHz, but also because of the display with high 1080p resolution and IPS technology for wider viewing angles and better overall picture quality. In addition, the notebook’s chiclet keyboard has LED backlight for better low-light visibility of the keys. Rounding up input features, the TX300 has a comfortably large touchpad with right and left click buttons integrated into the clickpad surface.

On the design side, we have the dark gray spun-aluminum lid of the tablet part and champagne colored aluminum on the keyboard base. When closed, the device measures 0.94-inch thick, while the tablet part is only 0.43″ thick. That’s an excellent thinness considering that the i7 CPU, SSD, RAM, a large-capacity 5000mAh battery, and other main components are embedded in the tablet and that the docking keyboard includes an additional 3,200mAh battery and the hard disk. When it comes to weight, the total weight of 4.2 pounds is pretty much heavy for a 13.3″ machine, with the keyboard dock and tablet weighing 2.1 lbs each.

According to Asus, the Transformer Book has a battery life of up to eight hours when used in laptop mode (with both batteries utilized) and up to five hours in tablet-only mode.

Also worth mentioning are a HD webcam on the front on the LCD panel and the built-in Bang and Olufsen-powered stereo speaker system.

Regarding ports, slots, and connectivity, Asus’ TX300CA-DH71 provides a pretty much conventional feature set, with two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, SD/MMC media card reader, Wi-Fi, LAN, and Bluetooth 4.0.

The device wears a hefty price tag of $1,500, but for the price it delivers a blend of uniqueness, one of the best components on the market, and elegant aluminum design.
