Another new laptop available in the US is the Asus U56E, a thin 15.6-incher with the 2nd Gen Intel Core processors.
The first model on sale is the U56E-BBL5 at Best Buy, featuring the Intel Core i5-2410M dual-core processor with integrated graphics, 6GB RAM, a 640GB hard disk, and DVD writer.
The U56E-BBL5 is 1.1-inch thin. It has a “Lake Blue”-colored chassis with spun aluminum cover, black soft-touch palm rest, black screen bezel, and a “hinge-forward” design. The laptop weighs 5.5 pounds with the included 8-cell battery, whereas similar systems with 15.6″ screen and sub-6 lbs wegiht usually come with a 6-cell unit. However, there’s no info on battery life.
Asustek’s notebook includes an isle-style keyboard, 0.3MP web camera, USB 3.0 port alongside two USB 2.0 connectors, WiMAX mobile broadband connection besides Wi-Fi and Gigabit Ethernet, HDMI, and Windows 7 Home Premium.
The Asus U56E-BBL5 is priced at $630.
Additionally, Asustek has previously announced that it will roll out a 14″ version – the U46, with a champagne-colored case, thin screen bezel, and a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GT 540M video card on the U46SV model.
