The Asus W5Fe is one of the first laptops to have additional external display built into the top of the notebook’s lid. The PortalPlayer Preface, known officially as Windows SideShow, lets you use the second screen to read emails, access a calendar, check network connections, monitor downloads, play games, movies and mp3s, even while the laptop is switched off, or hibernating.
The second built-in screen has its own power button, a directional pad with a central selector button, and a menu button.
The second display runs only on dual-screen laptops with Windows Vista operating system installed. The Asus W5Fe availability, as same as availability of other notebooks with external display, is expected after Vista’s release scheduled for the end of January 2007.
