Asus R50 (R70 looks similar)Asustek’s upcoming Ultra Mobile PCs (UMPCs) - the Asus R50 and Asus R70 - are showcased at the 2008 CeBIT Show, which ends today.

The R50 and R70, with 5.6-inch and 7-inch displays respectively, are most likely based on the recently introduced Intel Centrino Atom platform, codenamed “Menlow”, with the Atom “Silverthorne” processor and the “Poulsbo” chipset. The both devices run Windows Vista operating system.

According to the unofficial specifications, the Asus R50 (R50A) sports a 1.33GHz Atom CPU, 1GB of main memory, a 32GB solid state drive, 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, and three USB ports. The official specs say the R50 supports 3G/ 3.5G connectivity, and includes a built-in GPS module, and front and rear cameras. The device has no keyboard and weighs 1.15 pounds.

The Asus R70 is claimed to have a 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of RAM, and a 120GB hard drive. There are also two web cameras (2-megapixel + 0.3-megapixel), 3.5G internet access, a GPS receiver, and a pair of USB ports. As same as the R50, it has no keyboard.

Currently, there is no information on the pricing and availability of these UMPCs, but we expect them after the official release of the Centrino Atom platform in the first half of this year.
