SSD-Equipped MacBook Air Gets $500 Price Cut
Apple this month cut the price of the MacBook Air version with a solid state drive by $500, AppleInsider reports.
“The Cupertino-based Mac maker is now selling its super slim 13-inch 1.8GHz MacBook Air with a 64GB solid state drive for $2598, down from the $3098 fetching price that was listed as recently as last week,” the report says.
FastMac Introduces U-Charge for MacBooks, iBooks, PowerBooks
FastMac recently announced “U-Charge,” a universal battery charger for Apple MacBooks, iBooks, and PowerBooks.
“The new U-Charge works externally & connects directly to the battery’s terminals to recharge the battery quickly and efficiently, without the need for a laptop. Batteries from multiple Apple laptops can be recharged using this single, compact, lightweight and portable charger,” the press release says.
Corsair Announces High Performance Memory for MacBook, Macbook Pro
Corsair has announced the new low latency system memory, specifically tuned for the new MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops.
The “world’s first high performance memory modules for Macs” are available as 2×2GB upgrade kits (VSA4GSDSKIT667C4) and cost approximately $159.99. The memory operates at latencies of 4-4-4-12 and is certified to run at 667MHz.

Apple Refreshes MacBook, MacBook Pro Lines
Apple today updated its 13.3-inch MacBook and 15.4- and 17-inch MacBook Pro laptops with the new Intel Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer “Penryn” processors, larger hard drives, and 2GB of system memory standard in most models. In addition, the Macbook Pro notebooks now have the latest Nvidia GeForce video cards and Multi-Touch trackpads.
“The new MacBook Pro features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo technology with up to a 2.6 GHz processor with 6MB of shared L2 cache; up to 4GB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory and up to a 300GB hard drive, plus NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with up to 512MB of video memory. Every MacBook Pro now includes a trackpad with Multi-Touch gesture support for pinch, rotate and swipe, an illuminated keyboard, and a built-in ambient light sensor,” Apple’s press release says.

Apple MacBook Air Review Quotes
The MacBook Air, Apple’s latest ultraportable notebook which gained a lot of interest, has been reviewed recently by several websites.
This laptop, advertised as “the world’s thinnest notebook” features a 13.3-inch LED backlight display, a modified Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a spacious trackpad with multi-touch gesture support, 2GB of memory, an 80GB 1.8-inch hard drive or an optional 64GB solid state drive, 802.11n wireless connection, Bluetooth 2.1 technology, the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics, a micro-DVI port, and only one USB port. Ethernet LAN port and modem are provided via external USB adapters. The MacBook Air has no built-in optical drive. The system weighs three pounds and starts at $1,799.
MacBook Air Has Wireless, Remote Disc, Headphones Issues
Apple unveiled last week several documents about flaws in its MacBook Air ultraportable laptops. According to the published support documents, there are issues regarding MacBook Air’s wireless connectivity, and Windows installation using Remote Disc. In addition, some third party headphones won’t properly jack into the MacBook Air, Computer World reports.
“If your MacBook Air is closed and an external display is your only display, you may notice a reduction of throughput for wireless networks that use the 2.4-GHz band,” Apple said adding that users should try another channel on the wireless access point, switch frequency ranges or move the laptop closer to the base station.
Apple MacBook Air Released
Apple today unveiled the MacBook Air ultraportable, the world’s thinnest notebook, at the MacWorld Expo in San Francisco.
“The MacBook Air measures an unprecedented 0.16-inches at its thinnest point, while its maximum height of 0.76-inches is less than the thinnest point on competing notebooks,” the company’s press release says.
MacBook, MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1 Fixes Keyboard Issue
Apple has released MacBook, MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1, which addresses a keyboard issue on MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system.
“Some MacBook and MacBook Pro systems may occasionally experience a temporary suspension of keyboard input which can last a minute or longer. The Mac OS X 10.5.1 update is required before installing the MacBook, MacBook Pro Software Update 1.1,” the company says.

Apple to Launch $1,500 Ultraportable in January
Sources in Apple’s manufacturing facilities have confirmed that the company will launch its rumored ultraportable notebook at Macworld Expo and Conference in January 2008, CNBC’s Jim Goldman reported today.
The sub-notebook will cost $1,500 and will be 50 percent thinner than the company’s existing MacBook Pro reportedly. It will feature a Flash memory-based solid state drive, instead of a standard HDD. Goldman said the laptop will have a 12-inch screen, but AppleInsider still maintains that it will include a 13.3-inch display.
Apple to Unveil Ultraportable Laptop in January 2008
Apple will unveil its 13-inch ultraportable laptop during the Macworld Expo and Conference in January 2008, AppleInsider reports.
The new notebook will be approximately 50 percent lighter and strikingly slimmer than the company’s current 15-inch professional MacBook Pro offering reportedly. It will have a solid state drive, instead of a standard hard drive, as well as a LED backlight display. On the other side, it will not include a built-in optical drive.
Apple MacBooks Updated with Intel “Santa Rosa” Platform
Apple has updated its MacBook lineup with the new Intel “Santa Rosa” platform, which replaces the previous “Napa” platform in these 13.3-inch notebooks.
The new Macbooks feature the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics, instad of the GMA 950 in older models. This refresh also includes an improved chipset with 800MHz front side bus, which is up from the “Napa’s” 667MHz, as well as corresponding newer Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The offered CPUs in the latest MacBooks have 2.0GHz and 2.2GHz clock speeds, while the previous models are equipped with older 2.0GHz and 2.16GHz chips.

Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Officially Released
Apple has just released the Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system, which brings “more than 300″ new features and some changes over the previous 10.4 Tiger version.
Leopard, which is a 64-bit OS also compatible with 32-bit software, has a brand new desktop with Stacks, a new way to access files from the Dock; a redesigned Finder for browsing and sharing files between multiple Macs; Quick Look, a new way to instantly see files without opening an application; Spaces, used to create groups of applications and instantly switch between them; a data backup software called Time Machine; and a variety of other new features and improvements.

Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Coming on October 26
Apple today announced that its Mac OS X version 10.5 Leopard operating system will go on sale Friday, October 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Apple’s retail stores and authorized resellers.
“Leopard is packed with more than 300 new features and introduces a brand new desktop with Stacks, a new way to easily access files from the Dock; a redesigned Finder that lets users quickly browse and share files between multiple Macs; Quick Look, a new way to instantly see files without opening an application; Spaces, an intuitive new feature used to create groups of applications and instantly switch between them; and Time Machine, an effortless way to automatically back up everything on a Mac,” the press relese says.

Apple to Refresh MacBooks Soon
Apple will introduce refreshed MacBook laptops in the first half of November, following the release of its Mac OS X 10.5 “Leopard” operating system later this month, Think Secret reports.
“With Leopard on track to hit stores October 26, the updated MacBooks could be in consumer hands by the first half of November, if not sooner,” according to the report.
