Toshiba Introduced Qosmio Prototype with HD DVD Burner

The Current Toshiba QosmioToshiba is demonstrating a prototype of its Qosmio multimedia laptop with an integrated HD DVD-R optical drive, “the first notebook computer with the ability to burn HD DVDs”, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2007 in Las Vegas this week. The forthcoming Toshiba Qosmio also incorporates Microsoft’s Windows Vista OS and a high definition TV tuner, according to the company.

“With the addition of the HD DVD-R optical drive, the Qosmio notebook provides users with a state-of-the-art multimedia notebook that can burn up to 30 GB of data, including video or entire photo and music libraries, onto a single HD DVD recordable disc. The HD DVD-R optical drive also plays HD DVD movies at a resolution that is six times sharper than the DVD format”, the company said.

Pricing, availability, specific model number and configuration for Toshiba Qosmio with integrated HD DVD burner will be announced in the first quarter of 2007, according to Toshiba.

Toshiba unveiled the Qosmio G35-AV650 featuring HD DVD-ROM, with ability only to play HD DVD media, last year.

Toshiba Portege R400 Introduced

Toshiba Portege R400Toshiba today announced the Portege R400 tablet, “the signature Windows Vista PC”, at CES 2007. Toshiba Portege R400 is claimed to be the world’s first notebook computer with the ability to automatically synchronize e-mail and calendar events through the integration of Microsoft’s Active Notifications. Among significant inovations incorporated in Portege R400, there are the secondary Edge Display, the main LED backlit 12.1-inch screen and a patent pending elevated rotational hinge. The Toshiba Wireless Port Replicator is also introduced.

According to the company, the technology incorporated in Toshiba Portege R400 helps ensure accurate and timely information is available to the user whether the system is on or in suspend mode.

“To assist with this synchronization process, the Portege R400 features Toshiba’s ConfigFree, which helps detect and connect to the strongest and most reliable network connection available. To further enhance the functionality of the system’s automatic e-mail synchronization capabilities, the company added the Toshiba Edge Display to the Portege R400. Located on the front edge of the Portege R400, this secondary display serves as the user’s Personal Information Assistant allowing the user to easily monitor his/her inbox and calendar activity. To ensure full benefits of the convertible design, the Toshiba Edge Display is viewable in notebook or tablet mode and even when the unit is stored in a carrying case”, Toshiba explains.

Toshiba Portege R400 BackWith the Portege R400, Toshiba also announced “the world’s first wirelessly dockable notebook computer”. This approach eliminates the daily hassle of connecting and disconnecting peripherals and delivers the convenience and simplicity. Through the integration of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology with wireless digital video capabilities, the Portege R400 docking experience is designed specifically for desktop use and can automatically connect when the notebook comes within proximity of the Toshiba Wireless Port Replicator. The Toshiba Wireless Port Replicator will be compatible with new Portege R400 models both products are targeted for availability in the second quarter of 2007, the company says.

As a convertible notebook computer, the Portege R400 combines a patent pending elevated rotational hinge and a 12.1-inch diagonal widescreen LED backlit high-brightness display with wide viewing angle.

Samsung SPH-P9000 UMPCSamsung will show the SPH-P9000 UMPC device which features Mobile WiMAX technology, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2007 in Las Vegas.

Samsung SPH-P9000 also incorporates Windows XP operating system, and full QWERTY keyboard, 30GB hard disk, 256MB RAM, a 1GHz CPU and 1.3 megapixel camera, as same as CDMA EV-DO network capability.

MSI S300 Crystal CollectionMicro-Star Int’l today announced MSI S300 Crystal Collection, the 13.3-inch widescreen laptop with crystal. Along with MSI’s exclusive ring on notebook lid, made of 120 pieces of “genuine SWAROVSKI crystal”, the S300 also features the Shiny UV Light Glossy Coating.

Asus W5Fe with SideShow Introduced

Asus W5Fe, SideShowAsustek today introduced the Asus W5Fe series laptops featuring SideShow, an external auxiliary display on the notebook’s LCD cover.

The SideShow, which runs as an independent operating system and complements with Windows Vista, can be switched on without booting up the whole system. With imbedded flash memory, users can save selected data to SideShow, in forms of text, image and audio, for later review, according to Asus.

Asus to Showcase XG Audio-Visual Workstation at CES

Asus XG StationAsus will showcase the XG Station, an audio-visual workstation for laptops, at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2007 in Las Vegas. Aimed to give users better graphics and audio-visual effects when connected to their notebook, it is equipped with discrete graphics chips, Dolby output and USB 2.0, according to the company.

With Dolby Headphone technology any headphone is capable to delivers cinematic 5.1-channel surround sound for a dynamic true-to-life quality during PC game play and music or video playback. Real-time Overclocking is easily controlled with the ergonomic knob design for simple GPU clock speed adjustments.

The XG Station’s LED screen provides display of critical system status statistics such as system master volume, GPU clock speed and GPU temperature, Dolby Headphone feature status, current actual Frames Per Second (FPS) information and GPU fan speed indicator.
