CTL MB40U 14.1″ Laptop Offers Ubuntu OS, Intel Core CPUs
The CTL MB40U is a new Intel Core i-based laptop which features Ubuntu Linux operating system instead of Windows.
The 14.1-inch MB40U comes with Ubuntu 11.10 “Oneiric Ocelot” 64-bit pre-installed, which includes with a wide range of free applications, including an office suite. The notebook is configurable with Core i processors ranging from i3-2330 to Core i7-2630QM. Customers can also choose 2 – 8GB of DDR3 memory, and up to 500GB of hard drive space or up to a 512GB solid state drive. There’s no info on optical drive in the specs sheet, but an ODD is present on the image of the MB40U. Intel’s HD integrated GPU is the only graphics choice.

Asus K53E-BBR4 Laptop Offers 2nd Gen Core i5 for $450
The 15.6″ Asus K53E-BBR4 is another example of a big laptop price fall. The model costs only $450 and packs the Intel Core i5-2430M “Sandy Bridge” processor. The Asus K53E-BBR4 is even cheaper than the Samsung RC512 Black Friday laptop deal, which seemed very tempting itself a week ago.
The dual-core CPU runs at 2.4GHz normally and up to 3.0GHz in Turbo Boost mode. The i5-2430M scores 3,479 points in PassMark processor benchmark. For comparison, the fastest available “Sandy Bridge” Pentium laptop CPU – the B950 scores 1,993, while the 2.2GHz Core i3-2330M without TurboBoost capability is ranked with 2,805 marks.

Best Buy didn’t provide info on which laptop series the Lenovo 1068AFU belongs to. After looking at its images, we strongly believe it’s a B570 series notebook, aimed at budget-minded business customers.

The Satellite C655D-S5302 is basically the same C655D-S5300 laptop which was selling for $270, with exception of smaller RAM. The C655D-S5302 has only 2GB while the S5300 has 4GB. Besides a lack of an HDMI port, the small amount of installed memory may be a deal breaker for some. On the other side, you can put up to 8GB in this laptop. The RAM type is DDR3 and this component isn’t expensive. You can buy an additional 2GB DDR3 SODIMM module for slightly more than $10 on the market today and upgrade it yourself, but hoping that Toshiba hasn’t occupied both SODIMM slots with two 1GB parts.
