Dell Precision M4500 Mobile Workstation Announced
Dell announced today the Precision M4500 15.6-inch mobile workstation for designers and engineers.
The Precision M4500 includes the Core i5 or Core i7 processor, the Nvidia Quadro FX 1800M or Quadro FX 880M graphics, and “optional HD+ sRGB LED screen with 100 percent user selectable color gamut support.” The notebook comes with an optional 64GB SSD MiniCard, optional 3MP camera and optional Gobi 2.0 mobile broadband support.
Dell Precision M6500 Mobile Workstation Launched
Dell has launched the Precision M6500 17-inch mobile workstation with the Intel Core i7 processor.
Along with the Core i7-920XM Extreme, i7-820QM, or i7-720QM quad core CPU, the successor of the M6400 features the ATI FirePro M7740 1GB, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 2800M 1GB, or Quadro FX 3800M 1GB dedicated graphics card, four memory slots offering up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM, dual hard drives, support for RAID 0 and 1, and a DVD burner or Blu-Ray optical drive. Dell has announced that the M6500 will soon get an SSD mini-card option and support for RAID 5.
Dell Precision M6400 Quad Core Laptop Launched
Dell has launched this week their first quad-core mobile workstation – the Precision M6400.
The 17-inch laptop for engineers, designers, and multimedia content creators is configurable with the Intel Core 2 Quad QX9300 processor at 2.53GHz, NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M 512MB graphics, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, dual hard drives or solid state drives, providing up to 640GB and 128GB of storage in total respectively, and a DVD burner. Options for up to 16GB of RAM, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M 1GB video card, and up to 1TB of storage will be available by the end of the year.
Dell to Release Quad Core Precision Laptop
Dell is going to release this fall a 17-inch Precision mobile workstation that features a quad core processor and support for 16GB of system memory, according to a promotional video.
The desktop replacement laptop includes a graphics solution with 1GB of video memory and up to two hard drives providing up to 1TB of storage in total.

The Dell Precision M2400 comes with the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processor, the Nvidia Quadro FX 370M 256MB dedicated video card, up to 8GB of DDR2 memory, up to 320GB of hard drive space or up to 64GB of solid state drive storage, and a built-in optical drive. Optionally, the optical drive can be replaced by a secondary HDD.
Dell Releases BIOS Updates to Prevent Nvidia GPU Issues
Dell has released BIOS updates for select notebooks to help reduce the likelihood of recently revealed Nvidia graphics card issues.
The affected Nvidia GPUs are experiencing higher than expected failure rates causing video problems such as no video, multiple images on the screen, and random characters or lines on the display.
Dell Laptops to Feature Qualcomm’s Gobi Mobile Broadband Solution
Dell’s next-generation laptops, available later this year, will support a single-card EV-DO and HSPA 3G network connections through Qualcomm’s Gobi solution, the PC maker announced yesterday.
Dell explains that, using the Qualcomm Gobi, U.S.-based travelers who connect their laptops via EV-DO carrier networks (like Verizon Wireless or Sprint), will be also able to connect via HSPA carrier networks (like European Vodafone). Today customers who wish to connect to both types of networks must use two different mobile broadband cards.
Dell Precision M2300, M4300, M6300 Updated
Dell has added Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” 45-nanometer processor options to its Precision M2300, M4300, and M6300 mobile workstations. In addition, the new NVIDIA Quadro FX video card is now available in the M6300.
Along with the older 65nm Core 2 Duos, the 14.1-inch M2300, 15.4-inch M4300, and 17-inch M6300 are now available with the T8100, T8300, T9300, and T9500 45nm CPUs, clocked at 2.1GHz, 2.4GHz, 2.5GHz, and 2.6GHz respectively. The new chips have the same prices as their corresponding precursors. According to the product pages, the Precision M6300 notebook will be also available with the Core 2 Extreme X9000 “Penryn” at 2.8GHz.
Dell Unveils Precision M2300 14.1″ Mobile Workstation
Dell has unveiled this week the Precision M2300 notebook, the company’s first 14-inch mobile workstation.
The Dell Precision M2300 is based on the Intel PM965 chipset, which is a part of the “Santa Rosa” notebook platform. It features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with clock speeds from 2GHz to 2.6GHz, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 360M 128MB dedicated graphics card, up to 4GB of system memory, and a hard drive up to 160GB at 7200rpm rotational speed. There is also a 32GB solid state drive option. The laptop has a modular bay, that fits an optical drive, a secondary 6-cell battery, an additional 80GB HDD, or a weight-saver. The laptop’s 14.1-inch widescreen display provides a resolution of 1440-by-900 pixels.
Dell Precision M6300 Mobile Workstation Announced
Dell Inc. has announced the Precision M6300 notebook, the company’s new 17-inch mobile workstation. The Precision M6300, which is a successor of the M90, is based on the Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile platform and features the Core 2 Extreme X7900 processor option, the NVIDIA’s Quadro graphics, and a variety of storage and connectivity features.
Designed for demanding professional applications such as digital content creation and CAD design and modeling, this 8.5-pound laptop provides a choice of the Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, T7500 and the T7700 CPUs, as well as the overclockable Core 2 Extreme X7900 at 2.8GHz, which is the chip maker’s fastest mobile CPU. These processors are paired with Intel PM965 chipset and operate at an 800MHz front side bus, which is an increase from a 667MHz FSB found in the Precision M90.
The NVIDIA Quadro FX 1600M dedicated video card empowers the M6300’s 17″ widescreen display with 1440×900 or 1920×1200 screen resolution, depending on purchaser’s choice. In addition, Dell has announced that the LED backlight display option could be available later.
Athough the M6300 was expected to support up to 8GB of system memory, the M6300 officially supports up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM. The utilization of 4GB requires a 64-bit operating system. Data storage options include standard SATA hard drives with up to 200GB of capacity, a 32GB solid-state drive, and a hybrid hard drive with 1GB of cache memory. The new mobile workstation is also configurable with the Intel’s Turbo Memory for better system responsiveness. However, the hybrid HDD and the Turbo Memory are compatible only with the Windows Vista operating system. Regarding optical drives, there are DVD burner, Combo drive and Blu-ray Disc options.
The Precision M6300 features a support for 802.11 a/g and draft-n wireless LAN technology, and can be ordered with Bluetooth module and the Dell Wireless 5510 HSDPA (AT&T) card. It has six USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, a 5-in-1 media card reader, and both a DVI and a VGA port, allowing the laptop to support up to two 27-inch displays. There are also a S-Video output, a FireWire port, and an optional fingerprint reader.
The Dell Precision M6300 weighs 8.5 pounds.
The computer maker delivers this notebook with 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista or with Windows XP. Dell is expected to offer the 5.1 version of Red Hat Linux in the M6300 in November.
The Precision M6300 should become available today for a starting price of $2,069, while the similar 15.4-inch M4300 model is already available from $1,678.

Dell Precision M4300, the new notebook in company’s mobile workstation lineup, has been unveiled today. The 15.4-inch M4300 features Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook PC platform and NVIDIA’s Quadro FX graphics solution.
The Precision M4300, a successor of the Precision M65 model, is offered with Core 2 Duo T7100, T7300, T7500, and T7700 processor and a discrete Quadro FX 360M 256MB video card designed for graphically-demanding applications like 3D modeling and video-editing. This graphics card manages the 15.4″ widescreen display, which is offered in three versions: WUXGA UltraSharp (200 nits) with 1920×1200 resolution, WSXGA+ UltraSharp TrueLife (200 nits) with 1680×1050, or WXGA (220 nits) with 1280×800 resolution.
Dell to Replace for Free Laptop LCDs with Vertical Line Issue
Dell announced today it will replace for free the faulty LCD displays with vertical line problem in some of Inspiron 6000 and 8600, Latitude D800 and D810, and Precision M60 and M70 notebook computers.
According to Dell, the displays in small number of these laptop PCs develop one pixel wide vertical line or multiple lines across the screen. The cause of the problem has been traced to one specific component used in some of LCDs shipped on the potentially affected systems.
DesktopLinux: Dell’s Linux PCs Coming This Month
The pre-installed Linux on Dell Inc’s notebook and desktop computers may be coming before the end of April, DesktopLinux’s sources say.
“We still do not know which Linux Dell Inc. will be installing on its desktops and laptops. Among the distributions we know to be under consideration are: Novell/SUSE, Red Hat, Fedora, openSUSE, and Ubuntu. It would be safe to say now, though, that Ubuntu will be at least one of the Linuxes that Dell will be offering,†DesktopLinux claims.
Dell Offers LoJack for Laptops Theft Protection Service
Dell Inc. is now offering the Computrace LoJack for Laptops Theft Protection service to its notebook PC buyers.
Absolute Software, the maker of LoJack for Laptops, explains that LoJack software installed on your computer works behind the scenes to silently and securely contact its Monitoring Center, and if the laptop is stolen, reports its location using any Internet connection. The Recovery Team then tracks your computer’s location and partners with local law enforcement to get your computer back.
