Hewlett-Packard announced today the ElitePad 1000 and ProPad 600 business-centric tablets with Windows 8.1. Both are 10.1-inch devices powered by the Intel Atom “Bay Trail” processors with basic computing potential and great power efficiency. A novelty regarding performance is addition of 64-bit software support, thanks to new Bay Trail CPU parts used. In comparison with the previous Bay Trail tablets with 32-bit CPUs, the new ones should run faster, but not revolutionary. A big advantage of 64-bit tech is support for more than 3GB of RAM and HP’s new devices are the first of Atom-based tablets to have 4GB of RAM instead of the usual 2GB.
