Intel Releases New Laptop CPUs; Cuts Prices
Intel released yesterday the new notebook processors and cut laptop CPU prices for up to 40 percent.
Along with the recently introduced Intel Core 2 Extreme X7900, the chip maker has added the Core 2 Duo T7800 model at 2.6GHz to its mobile processor price list. The T7800 costs $530, while the prices for the older T7700 and the T7500 are decreased from $530 and $316 to $316 and $241 respectively.
Intel’s Laptop CPU Roadmap for This Summer Revealed
Intel plans to launch Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800 and Celeron M 540 laptop processors on July 8th, as well as Core 2 Extreme X7900, Core 2 Duo T7250, T7800, L7700, U2200, U2100, and Celeron 550 on September 2nd.
The Core 2 Extreme X7800 and X7900, designed for gaming notebooks, are clocked at 2.6GHz and 2.8GHz respectively. Both of these high-end processors have 800MHz front side bus, 4MB of L2 cache, and initial prices of $851, according to Intel’s mobile CPU roadmap published by VR-Zone.

Intel Core 2 Extreme For Gaming Notebooks Coming in Q3
Intel Corporation Executive Vice President Sean Maloney has announced the release of an Intel Core 2 Extreme mobile dual core processor at the Computex Show in Taipei. The chip maker’s first CPU designed for gaming notebooks will be released in the third quarter of this year, according to Maloney.
“The upcoming chip is targeted to be the company’s highest-performing mobile dual-core processor that still includes energy-saving power features for notebook-friendly designs,” Intel’s press release says.
Intel Centrino Duo, Centrino Pro “Santa Rosa” Officially Introduced
Intel Corporation today officially announced the new Intel Centrino notebook computer technology, which was code-named “Santa Rosa“. The new Centrino Duo and Centrino Pro laptops feature the latest Mobile Intel 965 Express chipsets and Core 2 Duo processors with increased front side bus speed to 800MHz from 667MHz, a wireless N connection, a Turbo Memory feature, as well as claimed better performance and lower power consumption.
According to Intel, more than 230 Intel Centrino Duo and Intel Centrino Pro processor technology-based designs from PC manufacturers, resellers and integrators around the world are expected to be released this year.
Intel Santa Rosa Details Confirmed
Shmuel (Mooly) Eden, the General Manager of Mobile Platforms Group at Intel, has confirmed earlier published details on Corporation’s forthcoming notebook PC platform, code-named “Santa Rosa“, scheduled for release in May. He has also confirmed the release of Core 2 Extreme notebook processor.
Intel’s “Santa Rosa” and forthcoming Core 2 Duo processors designed for the next-generation laptop platform will feature an 800MHz front side bus, which is up from 667MHz of current “Napa” platform.
Gateway E-100M to Be Refreshed with Core 2 Duo ULV
Gateway will be among the first OEMs to offer Intel’s Core 2 Duo (Merom) ultra-low voltage processor in an ultra-portable laptop. Starting May 3, Gateway customers will be able to order an E-100M business sub-notebook with Intel’s new U7600 ULV CPU, eWeek reports.
It is expected that the inclusion of the recently announced ultra-low voltage Merom processor will add $75 to the current E-100M’s price.
Intel Core 2 Duo U7600, U7500 ULV Processors Launched
Intel has launched today the Core 2 Duo U7600 and U7500 ultra-low voltage (ULV) processors, made for use in small notebooks and tablets, as well as in ultra-mobile PCs.
The first two ULV processors in Intel Core 2 Duo code-named Merom processor family - U7600 clocked at 1.2 GHz and U7500 at 1.06 GHz - are designed to provide lower power consumption and cooler operation than other Core 2 Duos. These dual core ULV processors provide TDP (thermal design power) of 10 watts, while the other Meroms have TDP of 17W and 34W. But, ULV CPUs have slower clock speeds.
Intel Centrino Pro Officially Announced
Intel Corporation today officially announced Centrino Pro processor technology for business laptop computers, which features Intel vPro technology currently used in desktop PCs.
“With Intel Centrino Pro processor technology, IT managers will be able to manage and protect their notebooks over Wi-Fi. In addition, administrators can manage both wired notebooks and desktop PCs regardless of their power state or the health of the PC. The result is better protected PCs, increased IT department compliance, more accurate PC inventories, fewer desk-side visits and less interruption to business,” the Corporation announced.
Intel Santa Rosa Platform Coming in May
Intel’s forthcoming Centrino notebook platform, codenamed Santa Rosa, will be released in May, according to TG Daily.
The next generation Centrino platform was introduced at Intel Developer Forum in September 2006. It is designed for use with Intel Core 2 Duo (codenamed Merom) processors and will feature 667MHz up to 800MHz front-side bus. The FSB speed can be dynamically reduced and raised, as required by the operating workload.
Intel to Launch Core 2 Extreme CPUs for Gaming Laptops
Intel will launch the first gaming laptop-use Intel Core 2 Extreme processor in Q2/Q3 2007, according to the Chinese HKEPC.
The HKEPC’s report based on Intel’s plans says that the first Core 2 Extreme mobile CPU will be the X7800 model featuring 2.6GHz speed, 4MB of L2 cache and a 800MHz front-side bus. It is said that these Intel’s next generation dual core CPUs for mobile gaming will be overclockable, and will be 64-bit capable like current Core 2 Duo processors for notebook’s (codenamed Merom).
Alienware Area-51 m5790, m5550 Now Overclockable
Alienware today announced the overclocking option for the Intel Core 2 Duo processors incorporated in Area-51 m5790 and Area-51 m5550 gaming notebooks.
The company says the customers now can take advantage of higher processing performance without the higher price, when purchasing the 17-inch m5790 and 15.4-inch m5550.

Systemax Announced Core 2 Duo Laptop For $999
The American PC maker Systemax today announced its first Intel Core 2 Duo-powered laptop. The 15.4-inch widescreen Systemax Pursuit has starting price of $999.99, according to the Mobile Magazine.
Along with Core 2 Duo T5500 at 1.66Ghz, Systemax Pursuit comes with 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 of main memory, 80GB SATA hard drive, DVD burner and the Intel’s Integrated Extreme Graphics 2. It also has integrated 1.3 Megapixel Camera, and comes with Windows XP Professional.
Asus Unveiled G1 and G2 Gaming Notebooks
Asus today announced the G1 and G2, the company’s “first two notebooks designed for mobile gamers”. The 15.4-inch widescreen Asus G1 and 17-inch widescreen Asus G2 feature the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The G1 comes with NVidia GeForce Go7700 with 512MB of video memory, while the G2 ATI Mobility Radeon X1700 featuring 512 MB VRAM.
