WidowPC Sting 517D2 – First U.S. Laptop with GeForce 8800M GTX
WidowPC today announced the 17-inch Sting 517D2, the first notebook available in the United States with the Nvidia’s GeForce 8800M GTX top of the line video card.
The GeForce 8800M GTX features 512MB of dedicated DDR3 video memory and 96 stream processors. It supports DirectX 10 gaming and provides hardware decoding of high definition multimedia content.
AMD Releases ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2700 GPU
AMD has silently added this week the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2700 graphics processing unit for notebooks to its product lineup.
The ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2700 has 120 stream processing units and a 128-bit DDR2/GDDR3 memory interface, and supports DirectX 10 gaming. The new graphics solution for laptops incorporates ATI Avivo HD video processing and display technology, delivering “High Definition video playback and full HD DVD and Blu-ray disc support”, and ATI PowerPlay 7.0 technology for balance between power consumption and performance.

Nvidia Prepares GeForce 8800M GTX; Specs Leaked
Nvidia prepares the release of the GeForce 8800M GTX video card for notebooks, the leaked Alienware’s laptop specifications revealed.
According to the information published on Alienware.com, the PC maker will unveil the 15.4-inch Area-51 m15x featuring the optional single Nvidia 8800M GTX and the 17-inch Area-51 m17x with an option of two of these video cards operating in SLI mode.
NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX Coming in November
NVIDIA will release the GeForce 8800M GTX, a DirectX 10 high performance video card for gaming notebooks, during the third week of November, the Inquirer reports.
The first 8800M GTX GPUs will feature 512MB of video memory, with 256MB models to follow. The card will operate at lower clock speeds than the corresponding desktop model – the 8800 GT – due to laptop-specific thermal and power consumption requirements. The card will have a MXM Type III form factor reportedly, but there is no information on how many shader units it will have, as well as on exact clock speeds.
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 For Laptops Coming Soon
The laptop version of the NVIDIA’s GeForce 8800 video card will be launched soon, according to Fudzilla.
Designed for use in gaming notebooks, the GeForce 8800M will be offered in Dell’s upcoming XPS (M1730) 17-inch laptop reportedly, which will also feature the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor option.
AGEIA Announced the World’s First PhysX Processor for Notebooks
AGEIA Technologies today announced AGEIA PhysX 100M, the world’s first PhysX processor aimed at gaming notebooks.
“AGEIA PhysX Mobile Technology features incredibly low power and thermal design with power dissipation of nearly 10W under gameplay conditions. It also includes active power management to throttle down the clock in high heat system conditions and reduce the clock when not active. This new technology provides optimized PhysX processing resources to deliver the same peak PhysX processing throughput as the original AGEIA PhysX processor for desktop PCs,” according to the press release.
NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT GPU Announced
NVIDIA Corporation today announced the notebook-use GeForce 8700M GT graphics processing unit (GPU), designed for gaming and high-definition multimedia content playback.
As well as the entire GeForce 8M Series laptop GPU lineup, the high-end GeForce 8700M GT supports DirectX 10 games, so the video card is compatible with the recently released DX10 version of Company of Heroes, and with upcoming highly anticipated Crysis from Crytek and Lost Planet from Capcom.
Intel “Santa Rosa” to Feature HD Decoder, DirectX 10
Intel’s “Santa Rosa” notebook platform will get a built in high-definition hardware decoder for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray playback support in the second half of this year, Intel mobile graphics spokesperson Mike Choi says.
“Intel’s decision to use a dedicated decoder chip will let the company keep costs down. Instead of relying on a more expensive discrete GPU to do the decoding, Intel can ship next-generation DVD support with its IGP (integrated graphics processor) products,” Ars Technica reports.
NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GPUs Coming This Summer
NVIDIA will release this summer GeForce 8800M series video cards, which will be the most powerful graphics processors for notebooks. The mobile 8800 GPUs, designed for gaming laptops, will be based on the new chip code-named NB8E, The Inquirer reports.
“Currently in roadmaps we have seen somewhere between Croatia and Taiwan, NB8E should come to market as NB8E-GTX, NB8E-GT and NB8E-SE. These codenames will probably end as GeForce 8800M GTX, 8800M GT and 8800M GS,” according to The Inquirer.
AMD Released ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600, 2400, 2300 GPUs
AMD today introduced the ATI Radeon HD 2000 graphics processor units for both notebook and desktop computers. The first DirectX 10-capable GPUs from AMD-ATI include the laptop-use ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 and HD 2400 series, but there is also Mobility Radeon HD 2300* video card supporting up to DirectX 9.
“For unparalleled graphics performance on the go, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 series combines the ultimate DirectX 10 gaming experiences with the graphics performance gamers demand in a high-end mobile system. NVIDIA Introduced New Quadro GPUs for Notebooks
NVIDIA has introduced the new professional-use Quadro graphics processing architecture for notebook computers.
“The new line of mobile graphics solutions, which includes NVIDIA Quadro FX 1600M, Quadro FX 570M and Quadro FX 360M, is designed to solve complex professional visual computing challenges in a mobile form factor,” the Company’s press release says.
NVIDIA GeForce 8M Series GPUs Released
NVIDIA has released the GeForce 8M Series graphics processors for laptops, “making ultra-realistic DirectX10 3D games and vivid HD video playback on notebook PCs a reality”.
Along with support for Microsoft’s DirectX 10, the new features of the GeForce 8M GPUS are unified architecture delivering “up to 2x the performance of previous generation GPUs”, PureVideo HD video processing engine for playback of high definition content, and NVIDIA PowerMizer technology for balance of notebook’s battery life and performance.
Asus to Release DirectX 10-Ready “Santa Rosa” Notebooks
Asus will release five new notebooks (A7S, F3SV, F3SC, A8SC, and W7S) featuring the new nVidia GeForce Go 8000 series video cards and Intel’s “Santa Rosa” notebook platform, according to NotebookItalia.
Although there are no details of the listed GeForce Go 8400 and 8600 GPUs, these graphics chips and other models in 8000 series should provide DirectX 10 and high-definition video capabilities for next generation PC games and multimedia.
AMD’s Hybrid Graphics Technology Coming This Fall
AMD will introduce this fall Hybrid Graphics technology, a combination of integrated and discrete graphics for notebook computers, AMD’s European technical director for sales and marketing Giuseppe Amato announced this week.
“The basic concept of this technology is the system can run power-saving integrated graphics when using battery power. When the platform is connected to a wall outlet, a discrete graphics card immediately switches on, delivering higher performance. This switching will work without a restart and its behavior should be user-configurable – at least to some degree,” DailyTech reports.
