ThinkPad is the high-quality laptop PC brand name introduced by IBM in 1995. The ThinkPad notebooks were designed and sold by IBM, until 2005. Since then, the ThinkPad has been manufactured and marketed by Lenovo which purchased the IBM PC division. The lineup includes the T series mainstream systems, L and Edge for budget-conscious users, X series ultraportables and tablets, and W line of mobile workstations.

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon business-class ultrabook, scheduled for release this summer, will sport a 14″ display, the Intel Ivy Bridge processor, and a very light and thin carbon-fiber body weighing 3 pounds and measuring 0.71 inches thick. That’s down from the already light and thin classic 13.3″ X1 ThinkPad’s 3.7 pounds and 0.84″. Besides the larger screen and thinner and lighter chassis, the X1 Carbon delivers improved screen resolution of 1600×900, up from 1366×768, as well as RapidCharge for fast battery recharges. The notebook has a spill-resistant keyboard with backlight and optional 3G connectivity. There’s no word on pricing.

Lenovo Rolls Out 2012 ThinkPad T, L, W, X with Ivy Bridge, Precision Keyboards

The 2012 ThinkPad refresh is now official. Lenovo has rolled out this week the updated ThinkPad T, L, W, and X series with the Intel Ivy Bridge processors and the new Precision keyboards instead of the classic ones as the most important changes.

The 3rd Generation Core CPUs are a positive change for sure, but there’s a debate if the isle style keyboards are appropriate replacements for the well known and praised old-school ones. However, Precision provides backlighting on almost all new models, which is a feature that lacked on the previous ThinkPads.

Both starting at $549, the 15.6″ E530 and 14″ E430 come with the current “Sandy Bridge” (2nd) generation of Intel Core i3 and i5 processors, integrated HD 3000 graphics, up to 8GB of RAM, maximal 500GB of HDD storage, a DVD burner, 1366×768 screen resolution with anti-glare and glossy display options, and a 720p webcam.

Speaking of the Lenovo ThinkPad W530 mobile workstation, Keith Combs has spotted an image of it. The picture is another confirmation that the traditional ThinkPad keyboards are gone and replaced with AccuType.

No specs of the ThinkPad W530 are available at the time of this writing, but we know that the 15.6″ notebook will come with Intel’s Core processors, almost certainly from the “Ivy Bridge” CPU family.

No More Classic ThinkPad Laptop Keyboards?

Lenovo has apparently replaced the legendary classic ThinkPad keyboards with the newer AccuType on the next-generation of their business laptops. The AccuType keyboards with ergonomically shaped isle-style keys have been used only on IdeaPad and ThinkPad Edge notebooks, but it has been also spotted on the first known non-Edge ThinkPad models for 2012. We have noticed the AccuType keyboard on the first published image of the ThinkPad L430/L530 last week, but today we saw that the X230 ultraportable also has AccuType. In addition, the T430u ultrabook is also equipped with the isle-style variant.

St John’s Unviversity website has revealed some specifications of the Lenovo ThinkPad T430, the new version of the PC maker’s 14″ business notebook.

The listed ThinkPad T430 model has the Intel Core i5-3210M dual-core “Ivy Bridge” processor, 1366×768 display, 6GB of 1333MHz RAM expandable to 8GB, a 320GB hard drive, and a DVD burner. Of course, the T430 will be also available in other configurations. According to the specs sheet, the integrated graphics processor is the HD 3000 series, but this is probably a mistake since the Ivy Bridge chips incorporate the HD 4000 IGP.

Lenovo oficially released today the Lenovo ThinkPad X130e, a 11.6″ ruggedized laptop for students.

The ThinkPad X130e is powered by either AMD Fusion E-300 and E-450 or Intel Core i3-2637M ULV processors, with integrated AMD Radeon and Intel HD graphics, respectively. It supports up to 8GB of RAM and will ship with hard or solid state drives with Windows 7 pre-loaded.
