ThinkPad is the high-quality laptop PC brand name introduced by IBM in 1995. The ThinkPad notebooks were designed and sold by IBM, until 2005. Since then, the ThinkPad has been manufactured and marketed by Lenovo which purchased the IBM PC division.
Lenovo ThinkPad X300 Ultraportable Now Available
“The thinnest and lightest full-function notebook in its class” - the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 13.3-inch ultraportable - is now available for purchase.
“The ultra-thin ThinkPad X300 measures less than three-fourths of an inch at its thinnest point, or approximately the height of a U.S. quarter coin,” Lenovo’s press release says.
Lenovo Releases SLED 10 Linux T61, R61 ThinkPads
Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) operating system is now available on select Lenovo ThinkPad T61 and R61 14-inch widescreen notebook PC models. In February, this preloaded Linux option will be extended to additional 14″ widescreen T and R Series models, and select T61 15″ widescreen laptops, Lenovo has announced this week.
Apparently, the SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 SP1-powered T61 and R61 14″ ThinkPads are now available for large enterprise customers. Lenovo says these notebooks will be available for purchase on the Web on February 19.
Penryn-Based Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Coming Next Month
Lenovo ThinkPad X61 ultraportable notebooks with the new 45-nanometer Intel Core 2 Duo processor, codenamed “Penryn“, will be available starting next month, according to an announcement from Lenovo.
The refreshed Thinkpad X61 12-inch laptops will be available with the Core 2 Duo “Penryn” T8100 at 2.1GHz and T8300 at 2.4GHz, both with 3MB of L2 cache.
First Penryn-Based Lenovo ThinkPads Available
The first Lenovo ThinkPad R61 and T61 notebook models with Intel Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processors, codenamed “Penryn“, and the “Santa Rosa Refresh” notebook platform are now available for purchase through the Alvio Inc.’s website.
The refreshed ThinkPad R61 laptops ship with the Core 2 Duo T8100 at 2.1GHz, while some of the ThinkPad T61 models now incorporate the T8100 or the T8300, which is clocked at 2.4GHz. These “Penryn” CPUs have an 800MHz front-side bus and 3MB of L2 cache and are claimed to provide better performance and power efficiency, when compared to their precursors - Core 2 Duo “Merom” 65nm chips.
Lenovo Produces Fully Ruggedized ThinkPad
Lenovo has produced a fully ruggedized ThinkPad notebook PC, according to the company’s official blog.
The Lenovo ThinkPad with enhanced ruggedness has outer casing made of thick magnesium, while the corners are reinforced with thick rubber pads. In addition, the laptop’s exterior is completely sealed so that it can be used under running water, according to the post.

Lenovo has unveiled the new ThinkPad T61p 15.4-inch widescreen mobile workstation laptop, the PC maker’s “highest performing notebook”.
“The ThinkPad T61p raises the bar on performance with Lenovo’s Ultra Connect II wireless design helping improve WWAN and WLAN 802.11n performance, new NVIDIA Quadro FX 57OM graphics certified to the open GL graphics GPU standard, Intel Centrino Pro mobile technology and long battery life with more control via Battery Stretch. Users can even opt for next-generation wireless capabilities with Ultra-Wideband. With Lenovo’s new cooling system, the notebook runs three decibels quieter over previous models and up to 10 percent cooler even under the most intensive tasks. Tops for security, the notebook offers optional port disablement, 32-byte password protection, an integrated fingerprint reader and full disk encryption,” Lenovo’s press release says.

Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve Edition Unveiled
Lenovo has unveiled the ThinkPad Reserve Edition laptop, encased in premium leather. The Reserve Edition is based on the recently released 12.1-inch Lenovo ThinkPad X61s reportedly and comes with executive-class service.
The laptop’s leather casing is bound using the traditional Japanese saddle stitching. The Reserve Edition also has a unique system for ventilation so that heat is carried away from the machine easily and without affecting its leather cover.

The integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 manages notebook’s 12-inch XGA (non-widescreen) display with 1024-by-768 resolution.
