Sony released today the 11.1-inch VAIO X Series, “the world’s lightest notebook”.

The Sony VAIO X Series weighs 1.6 pounds with its standard battery and is 0.55 inch thin. It is based on Intel’s “Menlow” platform and includes an Intel Atom Z550 2GHz processor, the GMA 500 integrated graphics, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 64GB or 128GB solid state drive with Windows 7 pre-installed. The VAIO X doesn’t include a built-in optical drive.

Gateway is going to release the EC18T Tablet PC with an 11.6-inch touch-screen display, according to leaked images and specifications.

The EC18T convertible laptop features an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, Intel’s GS45 chipset with integrated GMA 4500 series graphics, and Windows 7 OS.

Toshiba announced today the Satellite T100 Series ultra-thin laptops, featuring Intel’s ultra-low voltage processors.

The first two T100 models are the 13.3-inch Toshiba Satellite T135 and the 11.6-inch T115. Along with the ULV CPUs, the notebooks include DDR3 memory, 250GB or larger hard drives, “up to 9 hours” of battery life with the 6-cell battery, built-in web cameras, HDMI outputs, and Windows 7 OS. The T135 and T115 do not have built-in optical drives.

Walt Disney’s netbook for children - the Disney Netpal - is now available in the US, at Toys “R” Us stores, Amazon, and other retailers.

The Netpal is produced by Asustek and features an 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 display, the Intel Atom N270 CPU at 1.6GHz, 1GB of RAM, a 16GB solid state drive or a 160GB hard drive, depending on model, WiFi connection, a 5-hour battery life, and Windows XP OS with a custom Disney interface with more than 10 customizable themes inspired by popular Disney characters.

VIA Technologies has announced the Surfboard NetNote Edition mini-laptop platform with support for 1080p HD video.

The VIA Surfboard NetNote ultraportables have 10.2″ - 12.1″ displays with resolutions up to 1366 x 768 pixels, while external display resolutions go up to 1920 x 1440 pixels. The NetNotes are based on VIA C7-M and Nano CPUs and VX855 chipset with VIA Chrome9 HCM integrated graphics, supporting H.264, MPEG2, MPEG-4, WMV9, and VC1 video decoding acceleration.

HP launched today the Mini 311, an 11.6-inch netbook based on Nvidia’s ION platform.

Along with the 1366×768 LED-backlight display, the 3.2-pound Mini 311 sports the 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, the ION LE graphics with support for full 1080i/p HD decoding, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB HDD, a 6-cell battery, and a 92% of full-size keyboard.

Hewlett-Packard unveiled today the HP ProBook 5310m, “the world’s thinnest full-performance notebook” with a standard voltage processor.

At 0.9-inch thin and starting at 3.79 pounds, the business-class ProBook 5310m features a 13.3-inch 1366×768 glossy or anti-glare LED-backlight display, the standard voltage Intel Core 2 Duo SP9300 or ultra-low voltage Celeron SU2300 processor, the GMA 4500MHD integrated GPU, up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, up to 320GB of hard drive space or a 128GB solid state drive, and a standard 4-cell 41WHr battery. The laptop doesn’t have a built-in optical drive.

Hewlett-Packard announced today the HP Pavilion dm3 13.3-inch entertainment notebook PC, featuring the latest Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Neo Dual Core processors, a choice of Intel shared or ATI or NVIDIA discrete graphics, a run time of “up to 10 hours” via the standard 6-cell battery, a brushed aluminum chassis, and Windows 7 operating system.

Measuring less than one-inch thin and weighing 4.2 pounds, the HP Pavilion dm3 also sports up to 500GB of hard drive space, optionally built-in mobile broadband connection, and a low-light web camera.

The Asus UL30A, a 13.3-inch laptop that belongs to the new thin-and-light UL30 series, is now available in the United States.

Newegg offers the UL30A-X1 model that includes the Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 CULV 1.4GHz processor, the GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, 4GB of DDR3 memory, a 320GB hard drive, an 8-cell battery, and Windows Vista Home Premium OS. The UL30A utilizes LED backlight for its 13.3″ 1366×768-pixel glare display.

The MSI Wind12 U200 is a new 12.1-inch ultraportable laptop, based on the Intel CULV platform.

Weighing around 2.86 pounds with its 3-cell battery, the Wind12 U200 features the Intel 723 or SU3500 ultra-low voltage processor, the GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, up to 320GB of hard drive space, a battery life of “up to 6.5 hours” with the 6-cell unit, and Windows Vista Home Premium. The system doesn’t include a built-in optical drive.

Hewlett-Packard is going to release the HP Pavilion dv8 desktop replacement notebook, the Pavilion dm1 and dm3 ultraportables, and the Mini 311 netbook, according to some leaked product pages at hp.com, blog posts, and laptop listings.

The HP Pavilion dv8 features one of Intel’s next generation quad core CPUs - the Core i7 720QM - and an 18.4-inch display. The Intel CULV-based dm1 and dm3 include Core 2 Duo ultra-low voltage chips and 11.6″ and 13.3″ screens respectively. Finally, the HP Mini 311 is built on NVIDIA Ion netbook platform. It has the Intel Atom N270 CPU and an 11.6-inch display.

Cell phone maker Nokia today entered the laptop market with the Booklet 3G netbook.

Weighing no more than 2.75 pounds, the 0.78″ thin Booklet 3G features a 10.1-inch 1280×720 display, the Intel Atom Z530 1.6GHz processor, a “fanless” chipset design, 1GB of “soldered down” DDR2 memory, a 120GB 1.8″ hard drive with Windows 7 OS pre-installed, and a battery life of “up to 12 hours with normal daily use”.

Amazon.com offers the black MSI U210-008US model that includes the Neo MV-40 1.6GHz CPU, the ATI Radeon X1250 graphics chip, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive with Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed, and a 6-cell battery providing “5 hours” of run time.

Dell has launched the Inspiron 11z, a new ultraportable laptop that features an 11.6-inch display and an Intel Celeron ultra-low voltage processor.

The 3-pound Dell Inspiron 11z measures 1″ thin. Along with the Celeron 723 at 1.2GHz and the GS45 chipset with Intel’s integrated graphics, the notebook includes 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, a 3-cell battery, and Windows Vista Home Premium OS. The system doesn’t feature a built-in optical drive.
