Sony to Launch VAIO AR7, FZ4, SZ7 Penryn Laptops
Sony has prepared the VAIO AR7, FZ4, and SZ7 notebooks, featuring the Intel’s first 45-nanometer Core 2 Duo Mobile processors, codenamed “Penryn”, and the “Santa Rosa Refresh” mobile platform.
The leaked specifications of the 17-inch Sony VAIO VGN-AR730E/B, VGN-AR750E/B, and VGN-AR760U/B say these entertainment laptops will be available with the Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” T8100 CPU at 2.1GHz, while the top of the line VGN-AR790U/B features the T9300 at 2.5GHz. The systems come with 2GB or 4GB of RAM, and 320GB or 400GB hard drives, depending on model, as well as with Blu-Ray optical drives. Prices of the “Penryn”-based VAIO AR7 notebooks listed on Monstronix website range from $1,678 to $3,257.
Sony to Preload LocationFree Player on Vaio Laptops
Sony Electronics today announced that its LocationFree (LF) Player software will be pre-installed on all of the summer line of VAIO laptops. The software will enable Sony VAIO notebook users to access content from their home entertainment devices virtually anywhere in the world, as long as they have either a LF-B10 or LF-B20 Base Station.
Notebooks with LED Backlight to Surge in 2008
The use of LED backlighting, the display enhancement technology currently implemented in only a few notebooks by select manufacturers, will surge in 2008, Digi Times reports.
The average power consumption of 12.1-, 13.3- or 14.1-inch widescreen laptops that feature LED backlighting is one to two watts less than similar-sized notebooks that use traditional cold-cathode fluorescent lighting (CCFL) as the source, notebook business unit general manager at Asustek Tony Chen told to DigiTimes.
Sony Vaio VGN-SZ340 CTO Laptop Available
Sony Vaio VGN-SZ340 CTO, a new Core 2 Duo (Merom)-powered laptop from Sony’s 13.3-inch widescreen SZ series is now available at SonyStyle.com. This CTO (configure-to-order) notebook features choice of T7600, T7400, T7200 or T5600 Core 2 Duo CPU. For low-budget customers, there is also an option to configure the VGN-SZ340 with Intel’s Celeron processor.
Regarding graphics, the PC features Sony’s Hybrid System with a hardware switch for toggling between an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, for optimal power consumption, and a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400, for better performance.
Sony Vaio Core 2 Duo Laptops Listed on Company’s Site
The Sony Vaio FE, SZ and AR series laptop PCs will feature new 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile (Merom) processors, according to the listings at Sony Business Solutions web site.
The Sony Vaio VGN-FE770G is the first laptop of the 15.4-inch screen FE series featuring the latest Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. With Core 2 Duo T5600 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 120GB hard drive, it is suggested by manufacturer to cost $1350.
