The popular VAIO laptops are made by Sony.
Sony has announced the new VAIO S-series 13.3″ and 15.5″ notebooks with the latest Intel 3rd Gen processors and thin cases in aluminum, magnesium, or carbon fiber flavors.
Design of the cases has changed, but not much, judging from the published image. The most notable change is a larger button-less touchpad, replacing the old one with physical buttons. The optical drive is now a slot-loading one, in a DVD and Blu-ray variant.
The first Sony ultrabooks, released last week in the form of the 11.6″ VAIO T11 and 13.3″ VAIO T13, will be available with the 3rd Generation Intel Core processors after all.
The official announcment of the VAIO T series included 2nd Gen Core CPUs only, but Tech Focus spotted last weekend a T11 sample with the 3rd Gen “Ivy Bridge”, which will be reportedly also used in the T13.
Months after its competitors, Sony today entered the ultrabook laptop market with the brand new VAIO T-series, including the 11.6″ T11 and 13.3″ T13.
Inside the cases combining magnesium and aluminum, Sony’s first ultrabooks incorporate the 2nd Generation Intel Core “Sandy Bridge” power-efficient ultra-low-voltage processors, but there is no word on availability of the forthcoming 3rd Generation chips. Sony has provided only a specs sheet of a 13.3″ model, the VAIO SVT1311M1E, revealing a Core i4-2367M CPU SKU, 4GB of RAM, and the Intel HD 3000 IGP. The pixel count on the display is 1366×768. Storage choices are SSDs and hybrid HDDs.

Sony Europe has announced the first model from their 2012 VAIO E-series multimedia notebook line. The model in question is the VAIO E 14P with a 14″ display and the current Intel “Sandy Bridge” processor.

The new notebooks sport Intel “Sandy Bridge” Core and Pentium processors and replace the previous EA, EB, and EC models with the previous generation Intel “Arrandale” chips.
Sony has released the VAIO F series 16.4-inch higher-end entertainment notebook for 2011, featuring the 2nd Generation Intel Core processors, optional 3D capability, and a new design.
The updated Sony VAIO F (VPCF2000X series) comes with the quad-core Core i7-2630QM, i7-2720QM, or i7-2820QM processor, up to 8GB of RAM, and an up to 640GB hard drive or 512GB solid state drive. The 3D F Series comes with Nvidia’s 3D Vision technology, the Nvidia GeForce GT 540M 1GB dedicated video card and a Blu-ray player or burner, while the 2D version additionally provides GeForce GT 520M 512MB and DVD burner options, but lacks 3D Vision.
Best Buy has released a pair of their new exclusive Blue Label laptops – a 14-inch Toshiba Satellite E305 model and the 13.3″ Sony VAIO S Series VPCSC1AFM/S.
The Blue Label 3.0 E305 and VPCSC1AFM/S are inspired by customers’ feedback and feature the Intel Core i5-2410M processor, 4GB of RAM, and Intel HD and AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics, respectively.
Sony has made available the VAIO C series consumer notebooks, including both the 14-inch CA10 and 15.5-inch CB10 models.
Sony Electronics Europe has announced the redesigned VAIO S 13.3″ thin-and-light notebook – the Sony VAIO SB. The SB series is less than 1 inch thin and weighs 3.86-pounds. It features “a stylish new full flat design that’s crafted in magnesium with a wide aluminum palmrest”.
