Sony VAIO Z Series VGN Z530N/B Z540EBB Z550N/B Z570N/B Z590UAB Sony has unveiled recently a new line of ultraportable PCs – the VAIO Z Series 13.1-inch notebooks for “busy executives”.

Weighing just over 3 pounds, the VAIO Z is based on Intel’s Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform. The laptop includes the latest Intel Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processor, and enables on-the-fly switching between the power-saving GMA 4500MHD graphics chip and the dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS 128MB/256MB for better performance. Other core components of the Sony VAIO Z include up to 4GB of new DDR3 memory, up to 320GB hard drive or up to 128GB (64GBx2) of solid state drive storage, and a DVD burner or Blu-Ray burner.

Montevina-Based Sony Vaio FW, Z, SR, BZ Announced

Sony VAIO Intel Montevina Centrino 2 FWSony has announced the newly designed Sony VAIO FW, Z, SR, and BZ laptop PC series, based on Intel’s new Centrino 2 “Montevina” mobile platform.

These VAIO laptops include the latest Intel Centino 2 Core 2 Duo 45-nanometer processors. The notebooks feature Intel’s X4500 integrated graphics, dedicated GPUs by ATI and NVIDIA, and new 802.11n wireless modules. Some of the notebooks, particularly the FW and Z series, have new screen sizes of 16.4 and 13.1 inches.

Sony Refreshes VAIO TZ Series with VGN-TZ298N/XC

Sony VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XCSony Electronics is going to refresh its VAIO TZ 11.1-inch ultraportable notebook series with the VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XC model, which brings several upgrades over the previous TZ laptops, according to leaked information.

The first of the upgrades is a greater data storage capacity. The Sony VAIO VGN-TZ298N/XC has a 64GB solid state drive paired with a 250GB hard drive, while the currently available VAIO TZ laptops ship with up to 48GB of SSD storage or with a 100GB HDD.

Sony to Launch VAIO AR7, FZ4, SZ7 Penryn Laptops

Sony VAIO FZSony has prepared the VAIO AR7, FZ4, and SZ7 notebooks, featuring the Intel’s first 45-nanometer Core 2 Duo Mobile processors, codenamed “Penryn”, and the “Santa Rosa Refresh” mobile platform.

The leaked specifications of the 17-inch Sony VAIO VGN-AR730E/B, VGN-AR750E/B, and VGN-AR760U/B say these entertainment laptops will be available with the Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” T8100 CPU at 2.1GHz, while the top of the line VGN-AR790U/B features the T9300 at 2.5GHz. The systems come with 2GB or 4GB of RAM, and 320GB or 400GB hard drives, depending on model, as well as with Blu-Ray optical drives. Prices of the “Penryn”-based VAIO AR7 notebooks listed on Monstronix website range from $1,678 to $3,257.

Sony VAIO VGN-NR120E/SSony’s recently unveiled 15.4-inch VAIO NR Series budget notebooks are now available for purchase through Best Buy and Amazon. The VAIO VGN-NR120E/S model offered by Best Buy is priced at $599.99 after instant savings, which is $150 less than the announced starting price of $750 for the NR notebooks.

The lowest-priced Sony laptop ever - VGN-NR120E/S - features the Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2310 mobile processor at 1.46GHz, the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics, 1GB of system memory, a 160GB hard drive at 5,400rpm, and a DVD burner. The VAIO NR’s 15.4″ widescreen display provides 1280-by-800 pixel resolution.

Sony Introduces VAIO NR Laptop

Sony VAIO NRSony today unveiled the affordable VAIO NR 15.4-inch laptop series, starting at about $750. It is “the lowest-priced notebook the company has ever introduced,” according to the Sony’s press release.

The Sony VAIO NR110, NR120, and NR140 notebook models, listed on the company’s official website, are based on the Intel’s GL960 chipset, paired with a Pentium Dual Core processor. These systems come with 1GB of system memory, which is expandable to 2GB, and a hard drive with 120GB or 160GB of storage capacity, depending on model.

Vaio Zoom - Holographic Laptop Concept

VAIO ZoomYanko Design has published the images of the Vaio Zoom laptop concept. The notebook is supposed to use holographic technology.

“The Vaio Zoom notebook concept takes everything we know about holographic technology and squeezes it inside a thin glass form factor. When off, the screen is completely transparent and the keyboard goes opaque. Turn it on and the touchscreen holographic festivities begin. Even the mouse buttons are holographic,” the post says.

Sony VAIO FZ Maya Hayuk Never StopSony unveiled yesterday the VAIO Graphic Splash Maya Hayuk Edition notebooks featuring designs from artist Maya Hayuk. These limited edition laptops, based on the 15.4-inch Sony VAIO FZ series, will be available in two designs - “Grow” and “Never Stop”.

“The ‘Grow’ edition captures the feel of an organic forest with deep green, blue and purple flower-growing wildly across the top of the notebook while ‘Never Stop’ is a colorful, kaleidoscopic design that is decked in interlacing lines and spherical shapes,” the press release says.

Sony VAIO NR Coming This Fall

Sony VAIO NRSony prepares the launch of the VAIO NR series laptops, according to specifications leaked from a German website.

NotebookReview reports the VAIO NR is a pretty basic 15.4″ widescreen laptop, featuring Intel Core 2 Duo processor and integrated graphics. This Intel “Santa Rosa” platform-based notebook has the GMA X3100 video solution and 802.11 a/b/g wireless connectivity. The two listed models, aimed at European market, will come with 2GB of system memory and a 200GB hard drive.

Sony VAIO SZ6Sony has refreshed its VAIO SZ notebook series by introducing the SZ6 models with Intel “Santa Rosa” laptop platform, hybrid graphics solutions, hybrid hard drives and 13.3-inch LED backlight displays.

The preconfigured Sony VAIO SZ6 notebooks for the U.S. market, listed at Sony Electronics’ Business Solutions website, come with Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 or T7700 processors, while the built-to-order model additionally provides a choice of the T7250 CPU. These laptops ship with 160GB hybrid hard drives (H-HDD) featuring 256MB of onboard Flash memory and 5400rpm rotational speed, or with the standard 120GB, 160GB or 200GB HDDs, depending on model. The SZ6s have built-in DVD burners.

Sony VAIO TZ Ultraportable’s U.S. Availability Announced

Sony VAIO TZSony Electronics today announced the U.S. availability of the Sony VAIO TZ 2.65-pound ultraportable notebook, featuring 11.1-inch screen, up to 7.5 hours of battery life, and Intel’s ultra-low voltage processor.

The “luxuriously sleek” VAIO TZ is less than 1-inch thin. It has carbon-fiber casing in a classic black, premium carbon, champagne gold, and hand-painted Bordeaux variants, with the keyboard’s keys slightly raised above bezel layer.

Sony: Windows Vista Does Not Support Intel Turbo Memory

Intel Turbo MemorySony will not include Intel Turbo Memory technology in their line of VAIO notebooks scheduled for release this summer, because Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system is not currently Turbo Memory compatible, the computer maker’s representative announced. On the other side, Microsoft has denied Sony’s claims.

Sony VAIO CRSony today introduced VAIO CR 14.1-inch entertainment notebook series, featuring Intel “Santa Rosa” mobile platform and “eye-popping colors and a chic design”.

Sony VAIO CR is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor and based on the Intel GM965 chipset with integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100. The notebook’s 14.1″ widescreen display provides 1280-by-800 pixel resolution. Sony VAIO CR supports up to 4GB of system memory and comes with up to 200GB hard drive, which is available in select models. It has a built-in DVD burner.
