Toshiba Portege R600 Ultraportable Now Available in the US
Toshiba’s new 12.1-inch ultraportable laptop - the Portege R600 - is now available in the United States.
The Toshiba Portege R600 measures 0.77 inches at its thinnest edge and starts at 2.4 pounds. It is based on Intel Centrino 2 processor technology. Currently, there are two R600 configurations available - the R600-S4201 and R600-S4202. Both systems come with the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 CPU at 1.4GHz, GMA 4500MHD integrated graphics, 3GB of DDR2 memory, a built-in DVD burner, and 1280×800 widescreen LED-sidelight display that is outdoor viewable.

Toshiba Portege M750 Tablet PC Launched
Toshiba has launched the Portege M750 Tablet PC, featuring a 12.1-inch dual-input display and Intel Centrino 2 technology.
Toshiba says the Portege M750 detects the presence of a digital pen or a user’s fingertip, automatically switching between the different input methods. The display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and LED backlight.
Toshiba Portege R500-S5007V with 128GB SSD Announced
Toshiba yesterday announced the addition of a 128GB solid state drive (SSD) into the Portege R500 12.1-inch ultraportable laptop.
“Toshiba’s 2.4 pound Portege R500-S5007V is the world’s lightest laptop with a 128GB SSD and DVD SuperMulti drive and one of the world’s thinnest with a SSD and DVD SuperMulti drive,” the press release says.
Toshiba Portege M700 Tablet PC Announced
Toshiba announced today the Portege M700 Tablet PC for mobile professionals, the company’s first convertible notebook with a touch screen LED backlit display.
The size of the Toshiba Portege M700’s LED backlit display with anti-glare coating is 12.1-inch. Its resolution is 1280-by-800 (WXGA) pixels and it supports digital pen and touch screen inputs. Regarding internal components of the Intel 965 Express chipset-based Portege M700, there are an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (T7250, T7500, T7700 or T7800), the Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, up to 4GB of system memory, up to 160GB hard drive, and a built-in DVD burner, as well as an 802.11a/g/n wireless module, Gigabit Ethernet, and an optional Bluetooth receiver. The Tablet PC’s optical drive can be replaced with a second hard drive or weight saver.
Toshiba Wireless UWB Port Replicator Streams Baseband Video
Toshiba today announced Wireless UWB Port Replicator for Portege R400 Tablet PCs. It is the world’s first wireless port replicator capable of transferring baseband video, according to Toshiba.
“The integration of Ultra Wide Band (UWB) high-speed wireless technology capable of transmitting digital video wirelessly, allows the Toshiba Wireless UWB Port Replicator to stream baseband video with up to SXGA resolution. This enables users to easily stream unencrypted/uncompressed video, such as home videos, music and video CDs or Internet-based video,” the company’s press release says.
Toshiba Reminds Users to Replace Recalled Batteries
Toshiba Corporation today unveiled that one of its notebook computers with a Sony battery pack recently caught fire, and announced the additional measures to encourage customer participation in the global Sony battery packs replacement program, which started last year.
“On May 24, 2007, a Toshiba portable computer with a Sony battery pack caught fire. Toshiba immediately asked Sony to investigate. The investigation confirmed that the cause of the fire was the battery pack, as in other incidents reported earlier,” the Company’s press release says.
Toshiba Portege R500 Introduced
Toshiba today announced the Portege R500, “the world’s thinnest notebook series with an integrated optical drive”. It is the first notebook to include a 7mm optical drive and the widescreen 12.1-inch indoor/outdoor transreflective backlit LED screen. Toshiba claims the new Portege R500 has world’s longest battery life in a 12.1-inch widescreen notebook class.
The 0.77-inches thin 2.4-pound Toshiba Portege R500 has 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo U7600 ultra-low voltage processor with 1.20GHz clock speed, 2MB L2 cache, and 533MHz front-side bus. This ultra-portable is based on Mobile Intel 945GMS Express chipset with the integrated Graphic Media Accelerator 950, which manages a 12.1-inch 1280×800 LED backlight “highbrightness” display. The R500 supports up to 2GB of DDR2 system memory and comes with 120GB 5400rpm SATA hard disk drive. A mentioned ultra-thin 7mm optical drive is a DVD burner.
Toshiba’s AMD-Powered Notebooks Coming This Summer
Toshiba Corporation announced today it will put AMD processors in about 20 percent of the notebooks it sells in the United States and Europe. The laptop PC maker plans to use AMD chips in moderate-priced standard models for individual and corporate clients, Reuters reports.
The first AMD-powered notebooks from Toshiba will be released this summer reportedly.
Lapjacks - Toshiba Personalised Laptop Service Launched
Computer Systems Division of Toshiba Europe today announced its Lapjacks service, which enables owners of the Toshiba notebooks to design a customized cover for their laptop.
“The website (Lapjacks.com) allows customers to choose from thousands of high quality images, upload their own digital photographs or even create an original design and submit it for production. The designs are then printed onto a high quality adhesive vinyl cover that is engineered to fit the exact dimensions of the laptop”.
Toshiba Portege M400-S5032 Tablet PC Available
Toshiba has announced the Portege M400-S5032, the new tablet PC configuration in its 12.1-inch screen Portege M400 series. The preconfigured M400-S5032 features Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 1.83GHz, 1GB of DDR2 667MHz memory, 100GB 5400rpm SATA hard drive and an Ultra SlimSelect Bay double layer DVD burner. It comes with Windows Vista Business 32-bit operating system.
Toshiba Portege M400-S5032 is based on Intel 945GM Express Chipset, which incorporates Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 with 8MB to 256 MB of shared graphics memory providing 1024×768 screen resolution. The M400-S5032 has Intel PRO/Wireless Network Connection (802.11a/b/g), Gigabit Ethernet, 56k modem and a Bluetooth.
Toshiba Portege R400 Introduced
Toshiba today announced the Portege R400 tablet, “the signature Windows Vista PC”, at CES 2007. Toshiba Portege R400 is claimed to be the world’s first notebook computer with the ability to automatically synchronize e-mail and calendar events through the integration of Microsoft’s Active Notifications. Among significant inovations incorporated in Portege R400, there are the secondary Edge Display, the main LED backlit 12.1-inch screen and a patent pending elevated rotational hinge. The Toshiba Wireless Port Replicator is also introduced.
CPSC Announced 340,000 Battery Recall
A voluntary recall of 340,000 laptop batteries made by Sony was officially announced in the United States today. The latest-recalled lithium ion batteries containing Sony cells were used in Fujitsu’s, Gateway’s, Sony’s, and Toshiba’s notebook computers. These lithium ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published.
According to the CPSC’s press release, consumers should stop using the recalled batteries immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Toshiba Laptops Not Affected by Sony Battery Problem
Toshiba laptops are not affected by Sony battery issue, Toshiba published on its ToshibaDirect.com site. According to information published after investigation with Sony, Toshiba have found no evidence that the laptop battery problem reported by Dell and Apple in their latest recalls applies to its notebook PCs.
