Toshiba has released the Qosmio X500-Q930X, a new version of the Intel “Sandy Bridge”-based 18.4-inch gaming and multimedia laptop.
The Toshiba Qosmio X500-Q930X replaces the recalled X500-Q930S. Both notebooks have the same specifications and the only difference is apparently the fixed Intel 6 series “Cougar Point” chipset (B3 stepping) in the Q930X, which was faulty in the earlier version of the notebook.
Toshiba today recalled select laptop models, based on 2nd Generation Intel Core “Sandy Bridge” processors, due to the recently discovered error on the included Intel 6-Series “Cougar Point” chipset.
The notebooks affected by the flaw are select Satellite A660 / A665, L655, and M645 series models, the Satellite E305-S1990, select Toshiba Portege R835 laptops, select Qosmio X505 series systems, and the Qosmio X500-Q930 model.

The Qosmio X500-Q930S features the Intel Core i7-2630QM quad-core 2GHz (2.9Ghz TurboBoost) processor, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M 1.5GB video card, full HD display resolution, 8GB of DDR3 memory, 1TB of storage space using dual hard drives, and a Blu-ray combo drive.
Toshiba has announced new Satellite and Qosmio laptops with the 2nd Generation Intel Core “Sandy Bridge” processors.
The budget-class Toshiba Satellite L650 (L655 in retail) 15.6-inch series will include models with 2nd Generation Intel Core i3 and i5 dual-core processors, while the higher-end entertainment A660 / A665 15.6-incher and M640 / M645 14-incher will additionally offer quad-core Core i7 chips, as well as the new Nvidia GeForce GT 500M Series graphics with Optimus technology. The Satellite E305, designed in collaboration with Best Buy, will include a 2nd gen Core i5 processor.

The most reliable laptops in the market are those from Asus, Toshiba, and Sony, followed by Apple and Dell, according to a Sqare Trade’s reasearch which is based on a 3-year malfunction rates projection.
The failure rates for Asus, Toshiba, Sony, Apple and Dell notebooks are 15.6, 15.7, 16.8, 17.4, and 18.3 percent, respectively.

The Core i3/i5/i7-powered series include the Satellite L505, L555, A505, P505, M505, and U505, the Qosmio X505, and the Tecra A11.

The Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV690, the world’s first notebook to feature an HD DVD-R/RW drive, is now available for purchase.
This optical drive in the Toshiba Qosmio G45-AV690 entertainment laptop can play HD DVD movies and burn, erase, and re-burn data. The notebook features a 17-inch widescreen 1920×1200 display supporting 1080p content, an HDMI port, which can send 1080p high definition video to a HDTV along with 5.1 digital audio, and the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512MB video card.
Toshiba today announced that its Qosmio, Satellite X205 and select models of the Satellite U305 notebook series will incorporate Intel’s new line of Core 2 Duo mobile processors, codenamed “Penryn”.
“New models of the Satellite X205 will use the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 to drive gaming performance even higher, while the 4.5 pound Satellite U305 will harness the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 to prove that mobility and performance are not mutually exclusive. The Qosmio G45 with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 will continue to lead the industry’s integration of HD DVD technology,” a Toshiba’s press release says.
Toshiba Corporation today unveiled that one of its notebook computers with a Sony battery pack recently caught fire, and announced the additional measures to encourage customer participation in the global Sony battery packs replacement program, which started last year.
“On May 24, 2007, a Toshiba portable computer with a Sony battery pack caught fire. Toshiba immediately asked Sony to investigate. The investigation confirmed that the cause of the fire was the battery pack, as in other incidents reported earlier,†the Company’s press release says.
