Toshiba Satellite U305-S2816 with Intel Penryn Now Available
Toshiba yesterday announced the Satellite U305-S2816 13.3-inch laptop, featuring the new Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 “Penryn” 45-nanometer processor.
Along with the T8100 CPU at 2.1GHz, the Toshiba Satellite U305-S2816 includes 2GB of DDR2 system memory, expandable to 4GB, a 250GB 5,400rpm hard drive, a DVD burner, and the Intel GMA X3100 integrated graphics which manages the notebook’s 1280-by-800 pixel 13.3″ display.
Toshiba Announces Intel Penryn-Based Laptops
Toshiba today announced that its Qosmio, Satellite X205 and select models of the Satellite U305 notebook series will incorporate Intel’s new line of Core 2 Duo mobile processors, codenamed “Penryn“.
“New models of the Satellite X205 will use the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 to drive gaming performance even higher, while the 4.5 pound Satellite U305 will harness the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8100 to prove that mobility and performance are not mutually exclusive. The Qosmio G45 with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 will continue to lead the industry’s integration of HD DVD technology,” a Toshiba’s press release says.
Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI4 Features Intel Penryn, Dual GPUs
The Toshiba Satellite X205-SLI4, the company’s new 17-inch gaming laptop, features an Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” 45-nanometer processor and the “Santa Rosa Refresh” mobile platform, according to a product page on Ecost.com.
The newest 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 CPU with a 2.1GHz clock speed and 3MB of L2 cache is paired with two Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics cards in the Satellite X205-SLI4. These GPUs, which manage the notebook’s 17″ 1680×1050 display, operate in SLI mode and provide 512MB of dedicated GDDR3 video memory.

Toshiba today announced the addition of NVIDIA SLI technology to its Satellite X205 17-inch gaming notebook series. The dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT video cards in SLI mode are available in the Satellite X205-SLI1 and the Satellite X205-SLI3 configurations.
“Both models feature dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processing units (GPUs) with combined 512MB of dedicated video RAM and are compatible with Microsoft DirectX 10, ensuring that gamers can take full advantage of the cutting-edge graphics technology that are available within today’s ultra-realistic gaming titles,†the company’s press release says.

Toshiba Recalls 1,400 Sony-Made Laptop Batteries in the U.S.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary recall of around 1,400 Sony-made batteries used in Toshiba’s notebooks. The recalled lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire hazard to consumers.
The affected laptops are select Toshiba Satellite A100, Satellite A105, and Tecra A7 models, which were sold in the United States from January 2006 through April 2006. According to CPSC, Toshiba has received three reports outside of the United States of notebook batteries overheating. No injuries have been reported.
Toshiba Recalls 5,100 Laptop Batteries Worldwide
Toshiba recalled today about 5,100 laptop batteries, sold with its Dynabook, Dynabook Satellite, Satellite, and Tecra notebooks in Japan, the U.S., Europe, Australia, and China.
According to Toshiba’s representative, there were three cases in which these batteries caught fire – two in Japan and one in Australia. However, there were no injuries.
Toshiba Satellite P205-S6347 with “Santa Rosa”, HD DVD Available
Toshiba has refreshed its 17-inch Satellite P205 desktop replacement PC series with a Satellite P205-S6347 model featuring the latest Intel “Santa Rosa” Centrino Duo technology and a HD DVD drive. The PC maker has also added the customizable “Santa Rosa” notebooks to the P205 lineup.
Priced at $1,449, the Toshiba Satellite P205-S6347 comes with Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor (1.66GHz, 2MB L2, 667MHz FSB) and Intel GM965 chipset featuring Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which manages 17″ widescreen display with 1440×900 resolution. The notebook is configured with 2GB of DDR2 system memory, expandable up to 4GB, and with 200GB SATA hard disk drive at 4200rpm.
Toshiba Satellite U305/U300 Notebook Series Announced
Toshiba has announced today Satellite U305 13.3-inch notebook PC series aimed at students and small business owners. The U305 is based on the latest Intel “Santa Rosa” or the older “Napa” platform, depending on model.
The U305’s 13.3-inch widescreen display provides 1280 x 800 screen resolution. These laptops, which weigh starting at 4.6 pounds, come with DVD burner and integrated 1.3 megapixel web camera. All of U305 notebooks support up to 4GB of system memory.
Toshiba Satellite X205 Gaming Notebook Announced
Toshiba has announced the Satellite X205 gaming notebook PC series, featuring a 17-inch display, Intel “Santa Rosa” platform, NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT graphics solution, and a HD DVD drive.
Toshiba Satellite X205 is powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor and PM965 chipset, both providing 800MHz front side bus, which is an increase from 667MHz in older Satellite laptops. The GeForce 8700M GT dedicated graphics card in the X205 notebook is compatible with DirectX 10 games and has 256MB DDR3 video memory. This video card manages 17″ widescreen display with 1440-by-900 pixel resolution. Toshiba’s X205 supports up to 4GB of system memory and can be configured with up to two SATA hard drives. The offered configurations include 2×120GB and 2×160GB storage capacities. The laptop has a HD DVD player with CD and DVD writing capabilities. The HD DVD drive and notebook’s HDMI output with 1080i resolution provide high definition playback on external HD monitors and HDTVs.
Toshiba Satellite A215 – Company’s First AMD Laptop Since 2000
Toshiba today launched the Satellite A215 notebook computers, its first AMD-powered laptop series since 2000.
Along with AMD’s dual core Turion 64 X2 mobile processors, including the Gold Edition TL64 CPU, Toshiba Satellite A215 incorporates M690V chipset with its integrated ATI Radeon X1200 series graphics, managing notebook’s 15.4″ widescreen display with 1280-by-800 pixels screen resolution. These consumer laptops support up to 4GB of DDR2 system memory and Serial ATA hard disk drives. The first A215 series models feature built-in DVD burner with Labelflash technology for burning labels directly on the media.
Toshiba Satellite X200 Revealed
French blog Le Journal du Geek has revealed the details of the upcoming Toshiba Satellite X200 gaming laptop PC.
The first spotted model in X200 series features a 17-inch widescreen display with 1440×900 resolution, Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform, Core 2 Duo processor T7300 with 2Ghz, and Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT 256MB dedicated video card supporting DirectX 10 games. It has 2GB of system memory and a 200GB hard drive spinning at 4200rpm. There is also an option of two 160GB HDDs at 5400rpm.
Toshiba Reminds Users to Replace Recalled Batteries
Toshiba Corporation today unveiled that one of its notebook computers with a Sony battery pack recently caught fire, and announced the additional measures to encourage customer participation in the global Sony battery packs replacement program, which started last year.
“On May 24, 2007, a Toshiba portable computer with a Sony battery pack caught fire. Toshiba immediately asked Sony to investigate. The investigation confirmed that the cause of the fire was the battery pack, as in other incidents reported earlier,†the Company’s press release says.
