Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7537) Series I7537T-4340SLV Touch Full HD 15.6″ Laptop

Laptops with full HD display are becoming the mainstream. The latest Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (7537) series I7537T-4340SLV follows the trend, offering 1080p on its 15.6-inch touch-enabled screen.

The Inspiron I7537T-4340SLV isn’t aimed at laptop shoppers on a budget, but rather at those willing to spend a few more dollars for extra features and power. Precisely, $879.99. Obviously, the display is the star of the show, not only because of touch capability and 1080p, but also because of Corning Gorilla Glass, covering the display panel from edge to edge. Internal components and chassis are also higher grade, while keyboard backlight is another premium feature. The notebook is built upon the 4th Generation Intel Core “Haswell” i7-4500U dual-core processor, offering a bit more computing power than the widely adopted i5-4200U, while the integrated graphics processors inside them are the same: the Intel HD 4400. You’ll hardly find a consumer laptop with more than 8GB of RAM and a 1-Terabyte hard drive in the market today, so the I7537T-4340SLV offers maximal specs it this field. Storage-wise, a downside is absence of an optical disc drive.

Dell has eschewed it in order make the notebook thinner and lighter. Its success is mixed: the system is fairly thin, measuring 1″, but the weight of 5.7 pounds is weirdly heavy for a laptop with no DVD. It’s probably heavier because of glass on the screen. The 15.6″ notebooks with a DVD usually weigh about 5.3 pounds. The I7537T-4340SLV looks sleek thanks to slimness and forged aluminum design with diamond-cut beveled edges, but it isn’t suitable for carrying around much because of the weight.

For audio experience responsible are stereo speakers with modest 2 x 2W power, while for video communication there’s a 1-megapixel camera, capable of capturing 720p 30fps video.

Selection of ports and slots includes four USB 3.0 connectors, up from usual three, an HDMI v1.4a video output, a combo audio headphone/mic jack, and a 8-in-1 media card reader. For Internet connectivity, the system uses Ethernet LAN or wireless 802.11n Wi-Fi, and you can also attach Bluetooth devices to it.

The 15 7000 7537 I7537T-4340SLV is powered by a 4-cell Lithium-Ion 58WHr battery and Dell claims it can run up to seven hours on a single charge.

When it comes to competition, worth noting are these cheaper 1080p touchscreen 15.6-inch models with aluminum cases: the and HP Envy Touchsmart m6-k025dx for $780 and the Toshiba Satellite P55t-A5202 for about $800. As a downside, they have a bit slower i5-4200U CPU and smaller 750GB HDDs, so the $880 price tag on the I7537T-4340SLV is fairly realistic.

  2. Thanks for this note. I just saw the 7547 model at Bestbuy as well, and it looks like it doesn’t have an 8GB SSD hybrid 1TB drive anymore as well, just a regular 1TB drive. So another downgrade I suppose in the new model. :-(
