Dell Inspiron E1505 N with Ubuntu Now Available

Dell has just started selling the new Inspiron E1505 N notebooks with Ubuntu Linux 7.04 operating system installed.

Dell Inspiron E1505 N consumer laptop starts at $599. It is $100 cheaper than its E1505 sibling with Microsoft’s Windows Vista Home Basic preloaded. When compared to the same E1505 with Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, and Windows Vista Ultimate, the Ubuntu-powered E1505 N is cheaper for $129, $199, and $299, respectively.

Ubuntu Linux, as well as the most of other Linux OS distributions, is free of charge and comes with a variety of free software, including OpenOffice suite featuring word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing applications. There are also free web browsers, instant messengers, the GIMP photo editing application, and free multimedia software. For Vista Premium-like three-dimensional desktop (Aero) experience, Ubuntu provides users with an option to install Beryl 3D interface, or similar software.

The 15.4-inch widescreen Dell Inspiron E1505 N is offered with Intel Pentium or Core 2 Duo processor, up to 2GB of main memory, up to 160GB hard drive, and DVD burner. It has the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and Intel PRO Wireless 3945.

The product page says the preliminary ship date for this system is 6/6/2007.

Dell now also sells XPS 410n and Dimension E520n Ubuntu desktops.
