Inspiron E1505 to Be Dell’s First Ubuntu Linux Laptop


Dell Inspiron E1505Dell Ispiron E1505 will be the Company’s first consumer notebook PC featuring preloaded Linux operating system. The E1505 and two desktop computers with Ubuntu 7.04 Linux will be offered starting on Thursday, according to the e-mail by one of the Dell’s employees.

“We will be launching a Linux based OS (Ubuntu) on the E520 (Dimension desktop), 1505 (Inspiron laptop) and XPS 410 (desktop) starting next Thursday, 5/24. We expect these systems to be less than 1% of our OS mix for the entire year which is approximately 20,000 systems annually,” the email published on Jeremy’s Blog says.

Ubuntu 7.04 is the latest version of this popular Linux distribution. Dell decided to offer it on its consumer notebooks and desktops after thousands of users voted for that idea on company’s Dell Idea Storm website.

Dell Ispiron 1505 is a 15.4-inch widescreen laptop, powered by Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The PC maker currently offers this notebook with Windows Vista operating system only.
