Dell Inspiron Laptops - ColorsThe color options are the main source of shipping delays on the new lineup of the Dell Inspiron notebooks, according to the post published on the PC maker’s Direct2Dell official weblog.

“Basic colors like black are easier to produce. Premium colors and finishes like we use on the Inspiron models introduce complexity into the process, and that’s holding things up,” the post on Direct2Dell says.

The secondary reason for delays are displays, due to short supply of some screen sizes accordingly.

The company tries to indicate the potential shipping delays and an estimated ship date on the laptop configurator at Dell.com.

For example, the purchasers of the Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook in Flamingo Pink and Sunshine Yellow colors may experience delay of up to 16 business days, while the chosen Midnight Blue option may cause a delay of up to 11 days. All of the Jet Black and Alpine White Inspiron laptops currently ship without delays, according to configurator.

J.M. Bianco Says:

Dell claims that black and white are shipping or can be ordered - it’s a lie. I ordered an Inspiron on August 9. They delayed and then against my instructions, cancelled it on me. It was black - no fancy hardware/software - just a plain old laptop.

I went to Gateway. I’ll have it in 10 days.
