Along with a Precision M4300 mobile workstation, Dell Inc. has officially unveiled the Latitude D430 ultraportable notebook. The first D430 models are not built on the latest Intel “Santa Rosa” notebook platform. Instead, they feature older “Napa” platform, introduced in January 2006.
Dell’s “3.0 lb. Ultimate Road Warrior” is offered with Intel Core 2 Duo U7600 (1.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) or Intel Core Solo U1400 (1.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) processor. As same as its D420 precursor, it has the integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which manages the notebook’s 12.1-inch widescreen display. Dell Latitude D420 supports up to 2GB of system memory, and includes DDR2 RAM modules at 533MHz. The new ultraportable provides a choice of a 1.8-inch PATA hard drive at 4200rpm (up to 100GB) or a solid state drive with up to 32GB of storage capacity. The system doesn’t have a built-in optical drive.
Regarding communications, Dell Latitude D430 features wireless LAN with support for the 802.11n draft WiFi standard, an Etnernet LAN, and a 56k modem, as well as optional wireless broadband (WWAN) connectivity.
It has PCMCIA Type II slot, three USB 2.0 ports, a VGA out, an integrated microphone, a FireWire, a Serial port, and a docking connector. For improved security there are an integrated Smart Card reader, Trusted Platform Module 1.2, and a optional fingerprint reader.
Dell Latitude D430 notebook, which has a magnesium alloy construction, starts at $1,249 and comes with Windows Vista or Windows XP operating system.
It is available via PC maker’s official website.
